Martin Scorsese’s next film, a scary thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio, is expected to be a strong successor to his critically acclaimed movie from 16 years ago.
Look, whenever Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio work together, my expectations are automatically sky-high – they almost always deliver something special, and often something award-winning. And now, after the epic Killers of the Flower Moon, they’re teaming up again for Scorsese’s next film, which is based on a novel, interestingly enough. I’m already anticipating great things!
Considering the film’s style and plot, it seems like a great choice for fans of Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio’s earlier work together.
Martin Scorsese’s What Happens At Night Feels Like The Perfect Shutter Island Followup
Martin Scorsese’s new film, What Happens At Night, is adapted from Peter Cameron’s novel of the same title. The movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Mads Mikkelsen, and Patricia Clarkson. Like the book, it’s a suspenseful psychological thriller about an American couple traveling to Europe to adopt a child.
So, I was really getting into this movie, and things took a turn when the characters checked into this seriously creepy hotel. Right away, they started meeting some really odd people, and honestly, it felt like things weren’t quite real anymore – like their whole world was starting to get…fuzzy. It was a great setup for some serious mind-bending stuff!
Starring Leonardo DiCaprio and featuring elements of psychological horror, What Happens at Night draws strong comparisons to Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island. The new film echoes Shutter Island not only in its overall tone, but also in its setting – a remote, snowbound hotel – and in the way the central couple slowly begins to question their own sanity.
It’s still too early to know exactly how Scorsese will bring the book to life visually, but it feels likely to be a mind-bending and atmospheric experience, similar to his film Shutter Island.
What Happens At Night Will Incline More Towards Horror Than Shutter Island
While Shutter Island is certainly disturbing at times, it feels like a standard psychological thriller with good twists and excellent acting. What Happens At Night, however, appears to lean more into horror, creating a setting that feels truly haunted and otherworldly.
Details about Martin Scorsese’s upcoming film are still scarce, making it difficult to predict how he’ll approach the source material. However, based on the book it’s based on, What Happens at Night appears to be scarier than both Cape Fear and Shutter Island. This could make it the most horror-focused movie Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese have collaborated on.
