Married At First Sight’s Scott McCristal admits he would ‘turn a blind eye’ to Gia Fleur’s toxic behaviour – as he lifts the lid on their explosive rows

Scott McCristal, a groom from Married At First Sight, has finally spoken out about his difficult relationship with his wife, Gia Fleur, in a revealing new interview.

Scott told the Daily Mail that watching last week’s episodes of Couples Retreat was hard, as it reminded him of what he called a ‘toxic’ atmosphere during the show’s filming.

He said it’s difficult to watch because it reminds him of unpleasant behavior and people using offensive language.

The groom, who mostly avoided the on-set conflicts, said he consistently showed support for Gia, even when things were difficult behind the scenes.

‘I’m just a man who sticks by my woman, no matter what,’ he explained.

If you truly care about someone, you’ll always be there for them, no matter what choices they make.

But Scott claimed their dynamic became complicated when disagreements happened privately.

He claimed that Gia acted lovingly in front of others, but would become upset and confrontational privately if he tried to talk to her about her actions.

‘Around everyone else she’s good to me, she’s nice to me,’ he said.

However, when I try to talk to her privately about an issue, she doesn’t appreciate being directly addressed or corrected.

According to Scott, the couples retreat marked a turning point in their relationship.

He explained that increasing stress within the experiment started causing disagreements that people had previously discussed privately to become public.

He admitted he had reached his limit with the way people were acting.

I usually overlook things and don’t focus on negativity, but there came a point where I realized this had to change and I needed to speak up.

Scott shared that problems started when Gia wanted their relationship to move forward more quickly than he did.

Behind the scenes, he claimed she repeatedly questioned why he had not yet told her he loved her.

‘She would drop hints like, ‘Why haven’t you fallen in love with me yet?’ he said.

‘I’m like, ‘You can’t force me to tell you I love you. It takes time.’

The groom thought Gia might have started to like him sooner than expected, and that made things even more difficult.

‘I think Gia had more feelings for me at that time,’ he explained.

She mentioned people often plead with her, even going so far as to get on their knees, but that’s just not how I operate.

Scott shared that the couple also had disagreements when the cameras weren’t rolling, and these arguments were about surprisingly private matters.

‘You wouldn’t see this stuff on camera because it was personal,’ he said.

We often argued, especially when I tried to be safe and use protection, and those disagreements could easily escalate into all-day fights.

Scott noticed that Gia would sometimes think his carefulness meant he wasn’t fully invested in their relationship.

‘She’d say things like, ‘You’re not here for the right reasons,’ he recalled.

‘I’m thinking, ‘What are you talking about?’

The groom also talked about Gia leaving the set multiple times while they were filming, specifically mentioning instances where she abruptly left group activities.

Although people were surprised by her decision, Scott admitted he didn’t think she would really leave the show.

‘I knew she wouldn’t leave because I knew how much she genuinely cared about me,’ he said.

‘But I was annoyed that she could just up and leave without telling me.’

During filming, there were rumors that Gia had quit the show, but Scott says this was a misunderstanding.

‘I said she left. That doesn’t mean she left the experiment,’ he clarified.

‘I just thought she’d gone home for a bit.’

Even though their relationship was turbulent, Scott felt confident at the time that they could resolve their problems.

‘I was in a good relationship at that point,’ he said.

‘There was no reason for me to leave.’

Scott commented on Danny Hewitt and Bec Zacharia’s decision to leave the show, saying he understood why they chose to take a break.

‘That environment was toxic as hell,’ he admitted.

‘If people had the chance to leave, I don’t blame them.’

He even suggested Danny may have done the right thing by removing Bec from the situation.

‘Danny pulling her out probably saved their relationship,’ he said.

‘Sometimes you just need to reset.’

Let me tell you, working with a group of brides is always interesting! During filming, the relationships between them were constantly changing – one minute they’d be best friends, the next there was some tension. Honestly, it was a really draining experience to witness, and keep everything flowing smoothly.

‘Every week people formed different alliances,’ he said.

‘The guys didn’t really do that – it was mostly the girls.’

‘It’s just a toxic environment. People forget what they’re actually there for.’

As a dedicated viewer, I’m telling you, the drama between Scott and Gia is definitely not finished. Scott himself said we haven’t seen the last of it, so brace yourselves! It’s going to continue, and I, for one, am ready to watch it all unfold.

‘This is when the experts start questioning our relationship more,’ he revealed.

‘You’ll see a lot more coming out.’

Even after everything that happened, Scott maintained that he still loved his wife.

Asked what he would say to Gia now, he gave a surprisingly simple answer.

‘I’d just say, ‘I’ll see you soon.’
