Married At First Sight fans accuse Bec Zacharia of ‘pulling the overweight card’ for sympathy: ‘Her weight loss photos are photoshopped’

Bec Zacharia from Married At First Sight is facing claims that she’s edited her photos to make herself look larger.

The 35-year-old bride says she’s spent much of her life struggling with self-doubt and used to be very critical of herself.

Over the last year, Bec has lost 27 kilograms and completely changed her lifestyle. She initially started with a keto diet, then transitioned to Pilates and weight training.

Wednesday night’s episode of Married at First Sight featured several ‘before’ photos, including one of Bec relaxing on a sunbed at a Bali beach club during a vacation.

As a dedicated viewer, I noticed a lot of us weren’t convinced by what we were seeing. Some fans really dug into things and found pictures of Bec from the same vacation, and she looked much thinner in those than she did on the show. It definitely made people question what was going on!

‘Her weight loss photos are photoshopped,’ someone accused her on Reddit.

These two pictures were taken on the same day, but one of them, the one from Married at First Sight, appears to have been edited to make the person in it look larger.

Someone wondered if she hadn’t considered that people might look back at her old Instagram photos and discover she’d edited them.

One commenter criticized the influencer’s older, thinner photos on Instagram, finding it insensitive to mention weight struggles when many women face genuine difficulties with weight loss. They concluded by saying they don’t like her.

One fan commented on her unusual proportions, saying she appeared to have lost weight in her neck and face but not in her body. They described it as a ‘bizarre’ combination of a thinner neck and face with a fuller figure.

Fans on Reddit have been closely examining Bec’s social media posts to check the accuracy of her statements about her weight, and what they’ve found doesn’t look good for the Married at First Sight bride.

One person commented that they checked the woman’s Instagram and she hasn’t looked like that in photos for years, going all the way back to 2012. Another user agreed, saying they had done the same thing and found the same result.

Another viewer of Married at First Sight commented that the person in question appears thinner now than in the photo, and they never seemed ‘chubby’ before. They expressed being disturbed by what they saw as a false portrayal.

I was really saddened to hear about what happened with this contestant just before she appeared on the show. She’s based in Adelaide and works as an account manager, and she bravely shared a really difficult personal story right before her first episode aired this week. It definitely made me see her in a new light and I’m rooting for her.

She shared in a recent interview with Adelaide Now that she had struggled with self-hatred and a negative self-image throughout her life.

But feisty Bec says she is bringing a renewed confidence into the MAFS experiment.

Bec shared that while changing her appearance was a factor, the most important part was learning to love and value herself enough to believe she deserved a loving relationship.

I really dedicated myself to a lifestyle change – I tried the keto diet, and then I discovered Pilates and weight training. It completely transformed how I felt about myself. And that’s when it hit me: if I can love myself, why shouldn’t someone else be able to?

Bec has been paired with Melbourne-based real estate agent Danny Hewitt on the dating show. 

Bec appears confident and in control, but she’s finding it unsettling to leave her love life to the professionals, knowing that everything she does will be watched and judged by the audience.

She expects to receive both criticism and encouragement, and she’s determined to make her family proud as she competes for South Australia nationally.
