Mark Ruffalo’s “bittersweet” and “funny” comedy-drama is streaming in the UK now

Mark Ruffalo’s latest film, the comedy-drama Hal & Harper, is now streaming in the UK, following its release in the US last October.

The Marvel actor plays a father who struggles to express his feelings, and the story follows his two children – played by Cooper Raiff (who also created the show) and Lili Reinhart – as they grieve the recent death of their mother.

So, I’ve been binging this show, and all nine episodes are up on ITVX right now. You can usually find it pretty easily in the ‘Recently Added’ section, which is where I spotted it!

Critics are loving the show, giving it a 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 31 reviews.

According to The AV Club, the series is a charming and poignant exploration of family, with strong performances. While it occasionally wanders, it’s a deeply touching tribute to Leo Tolstoy’s idea that happy families share similarities, but unhappy families each struggle in their own unique way.

The Denton Record-Chronicle says the show is both deeply moving and ultimately hopeful. They describe the story as a reminder that even when life is chaotic, a strong and lasting love can connect us all.

According to IndieWire, the series is at its best when it portrays intense emotions in scenes that feel very real, thanks to the actors Cole Sprouse, Mark Ruffalo, and Aya Cash who bring a believable and touching quality to their characters’ struggles.

Several publications, such as the San Jose Mercury News and Decider, gave high marks to the cast, and JoBlo’s Movie Network even declared it “one of the best casts of the year.”

Although season 1 was a critical success, a second season hasn’t been announced yet.

In an interview with Decider last December, Raiff discussed potential future storylines for the characters, but expressed doubts about continuing the show. He felt a second season wouldn’t be very interesting, suggesting that one season was enough.

Hal & Harper is available to stream now in the UK.

The latest issue of Living Legends, a vibrant 100-page tribute to Harry Styles, is now available! You can find it at newsstands or purchase it online.
