Margaret Qualley is a model-turned dancer-turned actress, who has taken Hollywood by storm.
Though she’s become well-known for her roles in films like The Substance and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, she uses a different name with her family and friends.
While on the cover of Vanity Fair, Margaret shared that her actual name is Sarah, and people who know her best back home in the US still call her by that name.
Margaret shared with i-D magazine that when she was 16, her modeling agency forced her to pick just one of her names to use professionally.
She explained to the publication that although she’d be happy to revive it, she doesn’t want to be the one to rename it, considering her long history of success with the original title.
Elsewhere in her chat, Margaret reflected on making mistakes throughout her career.
She told Vanity Fair: ‘I’m super competitive with myself, and I’m very driven.
I’ve realized, professionally, that I often overcommit. I tend to say yes to every opportunity, which then leads to feeling overwhelmed and unable to manage my workload.
‘When I say mistakes, I don’t mean it was the wrong thing, I mean I wouldn’t do it again.’
Her cover with the magazine comes after she revealed she’s been in therapy since the age of 16.
Okay, so I was reading this interview with her, and she just opened up about so much! Apparently, she’s been going to therapy since she was sixteen – can you believe it? And she admitted she struggled with really bad insomnia in her twenties, like it totally messed things up for her back then. It’s just… so relatable, you know? I feel like I get her on a whole new level now.
‘I would be awake until 9 in the morning and just begging for sleep.
Margaret remembered having to skip the Cannes Film Festival early in her career because she couldn’t sleep. This happened while she was working on the movie The Nice Guys.
She added: ‘One of the first movies I did was The Nice Guys.
The film debuted at the Cannes Film Festival, but I couldn’t attend. I was severely sleep-deprived, having gone four days without rest, and honestly didn’t think I could cope.
The actress, now a dedicated meditator, shared that she still feels a strong connection to her childhood self.
She explained that being a woman has led her to wonder how much of who she is comes from her own choices, and how much is influenced by what society expects of her.
