Malcolm in the Middle reboot reveals hilarious trailer – with first look at recast of major character

The trailer for the new Malcolm in the Middle reboot is out, and fans are getting their first look at the updated Dewey. Since the original actor, Erik Per Sullivan, has stopped acting, a new actor has been cast in the role.

Frankie Muniz will reprise his role in the new series, now called Malcolm In The Middle: Life’s Still Unfair. The show will also bring back original cast members Bryan Cranston, Jane Kaczmarek, Christopher Masterson, Justin Berfield, and Emy Coligado.

Okay, so I recognized Caleb Ellsworth-Clark immediately! He’s playing Dewey now, which is awesome. I’ve seen him before in a bunch of stuff – he was in The Handmaid’s Tale, Wynonna Earp, Nightmare Alley, and even Spiral. Definitely a familiar face!

The latest season will be available on Disney+ and Hulu starting April 10th. It’s a brief season, with just four episodes. Linwood Bloomer, who created the series, returns as a writer and executive producer, and Vaughan Murrae joins the cast as the youngest sibling, Kelly.

The new trailer is getting a great response, and fans are sharing their excitement in the comments on Hulu’s Instagram page.

“My best tv series ever is back,” wrote one person, while another called it simply “GENIAL”.

“This is going to be the longest month of my whole life… can’t wait,” said another excited fan.

The sitcom Malcolm in the Middle originally aired 151 episodes beginning in January 2000, and these new episodes are being released just before the 20th anniversary of the show’s finale.

Late last year, Muniz described working on the show’s revival as “one of the most enjoyable experiences of my career.”

Reflecting on his role as Malcolm from 20 years ago, he told People magazine that he was very young at the time. He wasn’t sure what it would be like to revisit the character – whether it would feel natural or if it would be strange being back with the original cast. He said it truly felt like no time had passed at all.

When the show first aired, the actor, now 40, received an Emmy nomination for his leading role as Malcolm. Meanwhile, Bryan Cranston was nominated three times for his supporting role.

Kaczmarek was nominated for Lead Actress every season of the show. Cloris Leachman, who played her mother, received six nominations for Guest Actress and won the award twice.

Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair airs on 10 April on Disney+ and Hulu.
