Married At First Sight’s Stella Mickunaite surprised many by suggesting her husband, Filip Gregov, get a vasectomy when they experienced difficulties in their intimate life.
Oh my god, you guys, I was obsessed with what Stella said about that whole thing on Sunday! Apparently, after Filip confessed he was, like, totally scared of accidentally having a baby, then that super awkward conversation happened. I mean, she spilled all the details, and it was just… everything! I’ve rewatched it like a million times!
Stella explained that Filip worried about accidentally getting someone pregnant, and she personally believes children should be raised within a stable, committed relationship.
The bride explained that worries about getting pregnant led to many conversations with her partner, particularly after they’d become less intimate following a difficult couples retreat.
She explained they went through a difficult period with a lack of closeness, caused by her relationship anxieties and the emotional weight of the retreat. They had a significant conversation about it.
Stella also made it clear she had no intention of returning to hormonal contraception.
‘I am also never going to go back on birth control as it affects hormones for women,’ she said.
Instead, she offered what she believed was a simple solution.
Having experienced miscarriage and understanding how birth control and hormones work, she felt a vasectomy was the simplest option.
‘It’s 15 minutes. It’s safe. It’s reversible. And you can always access sperm when you need it.’
Filip also addressed the conversation, admitting that the idea initially caught him off guard.
He admitted to worrying about accidentally getting someone pregnant, something he described as a common concern for men in intimate relationships.
I never once thought about getting a vasectomy, and no one has ever suggested it to me before.
He explained that the conversation made him realize there’s a larger problem with how society expects women to handle contraception.
He continued, saying this raises an important point about why there’s often an expectation that women should always be the ones to make sacrifices, when men can certainly share that responsibility too.
‘I guess the rubber is the answer right?’
After Sunday night’s episode, it became clear that one of the show’s most promising couples was starting to have problems.
Okay, so during the Commitment Ceremony, Stella finally admitted things weren’t the same between us after Filip told me he loved me. It was like, everything shifted, and she had to acknowledge it! I knew it, I felt it, and she had to say it out loud! It was so obvious!
Rather than feeling reassured, the declaration triggered deep fears of abandonment.
‘I have whiplash,’ she told the experts.
She also shared that she’d been increasingly worried about their relationship after the show, especially because Filip doesn’t intend to move to Sydney at this time.
She said he’s currently unwilling to consider moving to Sydney, and she feels like that means their relationship is over.
Filip confessed that dealing with the pressure had been challenging. He explained to the professionals that during disagreements, Stella sometimes seemed to be trying to humble him or put him in his place.
He described a situation where Stella challenged him about being a man because he didn’t want to go out after a tiring week.
The biggest surprise came when the couple admitted they had stopped having sex.
Stella explained that Filip’s fear of an accidental pregnancy had been a major factor in the pause.
Her blunt suggestion that he get a vasectomy left the experts stunned.
Alessandra Rampolla, a relationship expert, wondered if Filip was using his fear as a way to avoid something.
‘It almost seems like a little bit of an excuse,’ she told the couple.
Despite the awkward discussion, both Stella and Filip ultimately decided to stay in the experiment.
The experts advised Stella to consider her words more carefully, explaining that her direct way of speaking might be upsetting Filip and making it harder for them to communicate effectively.
Both wrote ‘stay’ at the ceremony, signalling they are determined to work through their issues.
