Love Story Actor Teases “Difficult To Watch” Finale Of Carolyn Bessette & JFK Jr. Series

Love Story‘s finale is nearly here, and the heartbreaking truth is becoming a reality.

FX’s new series, Love Story, created by Ryan Murphy, tells the story of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette. The show, which will span one season, follows their relationship from when they first met, through Bessette’s time working at Calvin Klein, to their 1996 marriage. Their romance, lifestyle, and fashion choices were constant news headlines until the heartbreaking tragedy in 1999.

Constance Zimmer, who plays Ann Marie Messina, told Decider that the season finale will be very upsetting for viewers. The final episode of the series will likely depict the tragic 1999 plane crash that killed John F. Kennedy Jr., his wife Bessette, and her sister Lauren off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard.

Zimmer sets the stage for the emotional story of the tragedy and how her character coped with it.

We all generally understand the direction a scene is heading, but as an actor, the challenge lies in how you reveal that. You constantly read scripts knowing what’s going to happen, and your job is to avoid letting the audience see that you know. It can be tricky because you’re dealing with emotions that aren’t immediately obvious.

If I allowed myself to truly feel those emotions – if they came through in what I said – it would be overwhelming. It’s like you need to process the information and then let it go, not dwell on it. That’s why I anticipate Episode 9 will be incredibly tough for viewers; that’s its purpose, as I see it.

This is a chance for us to acknowledge and process all the emotions we experienced while watching the show, especially when those events unfolded live at the time.

The final episode of the series will likely depict the events surrounding the tragic deaths of Carolyn Bessette, John F. Kennedy Jr., and Lauren Bessette. Though some family members have criticized it as being in poor taste, the show, titled Love Story, has proven popular with viewers, earning an 80% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Given the way the show is structured, it probably won’t be back for another season. However, knowing the creator’s fondness for anthology series, future installments could focus on another compelling love story – or even a famously troubled relationship, like that of Princess Diana and King Charles. While the creator hasn’t confirmed whether they’ll continue the Love Story series with more tales of romance and heartbreak, it remains a possibility.
