Molly Smith and Tom Clare have sold the first house they bought together after only 18 months of ownership.
The Love Island winners purchased their ideal home in August 2024, half a year after their victory on All Stars.
They had started renovating the house and finished their kitchen remodel right before Christmas.
As a lifestyle expert, I often see couples overwhelmed by wedding planning, especially when it involves a destination celebration. It’s understandable! For Molly and Tom, a beautiful couple I worked with, the stress of planning their dream wedding, combined with the surprisingly high costs, led them to a really smart decision: they decided to simplify things by selling their home. It allowed them to focus on what truly mattered – their commitment to each other – without the added pressure of a huge financial burden and logistical nightmare.
In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, they revealed they’ve sold their house and are now searching for a new one.
Molly shared that her mum told her she was tackling two of life’s most stressful events at once: moving house and getting married.
Besides the NearlyWeds podcast, we’re juggling a lot of projects right now. It’s hectic, but I really enjoy staying busy.
Although they adored their first house, the couple intends to find a home they can stay in for the long term after they get married.
Tom said they always expected to move eventually, and maybe thought they’d stay in their current place a little longer. Now, they’re looking for a house they can settle into permanently, raise a family, and entertain friends and family.
The couple will be getting married in Spain in less than four months, surrounded by their loved ones.
Molly, who is getting married soon, offered some friendly tips to couples planning their weddings, focusing on how to manage their budget.
Molly playfully advised, “When a bill arrives, just take care of it without mentioning it to your husband – ignorance is bliss!” She added with a laugh, “I simply tell him, ‘Don’t worry, it’s already handled!'”
Weddings are surprisingly expensive these days, which Tom admitted he hadn’t realized.
The footballer shared that weddings can be surprisingly expensive, explaining his wife, Molly, had wanted to spend £4,000 just on fairy lights.
‘It was £4,000 for fairy lights, which I think is absolutely f****** ridiculous’, Tom said.
Molly said he was fixating on the fairy lights, talking about them endlessly. Finally, she decided to just pay for it from their shared account, figuring that would end the discussion.
I admit it sounds silly, but I really think it will look great. We’re not being completely unreasonable, and we do have a budget to work with.
Before their wedding, Tom is going to Las Vegas for a bachelor party, and Molly is celebrating her bachelorette in Ibiza.
Tom admitted he was feeling anxious about the upcoming holiday, sharing his concerns with his best man and fellow Love Island contestant, Casey O’Gorman. He’s unsure of what to expect.
Molly was worried about her friend going to Vegas, especially knowing people like Casey would be there. She wanted to make sure he had enough time to return home, just in case he got into trouble with the law or arrested.
I’ve learned a little bit from Casey, and I’m keeping it just between us – I don’t want to spoil anything for you and want you to enjoy it fully.
Honestly, Casey won’t let up about this whole thing, and it’s just getting to me. I find myself constantly thinking, ‘Oh great, here we go again,’ and it’s making me not want to deal with it at all. It’s really frustrating!
In 2024, Molly joined the cast of Love Island: All Stars as a new contestant, and surprisingly found herself face-to-face with her former boyfriend, Callum Jones. They originally met on the show back in 2020.
At first, viewers were rooting for Molly and Callum to get back together. But they were even happier when Molly found love with Tom, a footballer from Macclesfield, and the two of them ended up winning the £50,000 prize.
I’m so excited about the new hosts of NearlyWeds! It’s fantastic to see the podcast passing the torch from Jamie and Sophie, who did such a wonderful job taking us through engagements, weddings, and even into parenthood. I can’t wait to see what the new hosts bring to the show!
