Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha accused of using derogatory name for ITV show viewers

Nadia Sawalha, a panelist on the show Loose Women, has been called out by her previous agent, Melanie Blake, for allegedly using an offensive term to describe the show’s audience.

The person, who previously managed Coleen Nolan from the show Loose Women, went on social media to accuse Nadia Sawalha of using an insulting term for viewers of the talk show.

I just saw this interesting post from Blake on X! He was talking about an old scandal from ITV. Apparently, years ago, viewers nicknamed someone the ‘Tracy Tower block,’ which caused a bit of a fuss, and ITV always said they never used that nickname internally. But Blake says the only person he ever heard actually using it was… well, her! It’s a pretty wild little bit of TV history he’s sharing.

She later explained to a fan that she only ever heard that phrase used by this particular person, who said it frequently when talking about the viewers watching at home. Having worked in television for over 30 years and interacted with many people, she found it strange that she only heard the phrase from her, but acknowledged that doesn’t necessarily mean no one else used it.

Last year, actress Nadia Sawalha strongly criticized ITV’s program cuts, describing them as “extremely harsh.” She explained that many people don’t understand that those who work on Loose Women, including herself, are self-employed and each appearance requires a new contract.

Honestly, it’s a bit unsettling knowing my involvement could end at any time. There’s no job security because we’re not traditional employees – I could be gone tomorrow, or I could stick around for years, and there’s just no way to predict it.

It’s been incredibly difficult this past week, and honestly, it’s made me quite emotional. Hundreds of dedicated staff members who work behind the scenes to support us are suddenly losing their jobs.

I was really disappointed to hear about the cuts ITV was making. Kevin Lygo, who runs their TV and entertainment side, admitted it would unfortunately affect people working behind the scenes on their daytime shows. It’s tough to see good people potentially losing their jobs, and he at least acknowledged that impact.

Starting next year, we’ll be collaborating with ITV Studios and ITN as they adjust how they make their programs. We’ll provide support to help them through this process.

Digital Spy has reached out to ITV and Sawalha’s representative for comment.

Loose Women airs on weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
