Lola Young curses in candid speech after accepting her first-ever Grammy from Charli XCX

Lola Young used strong language, including multiple expletives, while accepting her first Grammy award on Sunday.

The 25-year-old singer won the Best Pop Solo Performance Grammy for her song “Messy.” Last year’s winner, Charli XCX, presented her with the award.

After the artist behind ‘Brat’ expressed she understood the winning song, ‘Messy,’ she immediately rushed onto the stage.

She recently celebrated a victory after a memorable performance of her song, both on the red carpet and on stage. This came after a short break and the cancellation of her tour due to a health issue late last year.

At the yearly awards show in Los Angeles, Young gave a brief and honest speech, admitting she hadn’t prepared any remarks beforehand.

She was nominated alongside Justin Bieber for his song “DAISIES,” Sabrina Carpenter for “Manchild,” Lady Gaga for “Disease,” and Chappell Roan for “The Subway.”

Young started by admitting she hadn’t prepared a speech, saying, ‘I don’t know what I’m going to say,’ before briefly using an expletive.

CBS nearly broadcast a curse word live on air, but they quickly cut the sound to prevent it from being heard. They missed censoring it by just one second, though they did manage to block the most offensive part of her speech.

Then, she profusely apologized to the crowd of fellow stars for swearing.

The London-born sensation exclaimed: ‘Sorry, sorry, sorry! It’s messy, you know what I mean?

She continued, saying she was incredibly grateful, and you could see it on her face. “We did it!” she exclaimed, expressing her love for everyone present.

Young was also up for Best New Artist at the Grammys this year, but Olivia Dean won the award.

Before receiving the award, Young played a piano arrangement of the song that would ultimately win, as one of the first performances of the night.

She returned to the stage with this performance, after having to cancel her tour in September 2025 due to a health issue.

During a show at the time, she suddenly collapsed mid-song.

She was performing her song Conceited at the All Things Go Music Festival in New York City.

Young announced on social media that she’s taking a break to rest and prioritize her health.

She shared that she’d had a difficult time recently, but later let her fans know on Instagram that she was feeling better.

Okay, so the news is out – I’m having to put all my upcoming shows on hold. That means my performances in both the U.K. and the U.S. that were scheduled for late 2025 are being postponed for the foreseeable future. It wasn’t an easy decision, but I need to prioritize things right now and unfortunately, that means stepping back from touring for a while.
