Lily Allen reveals she's 'not in a great place mentally' and has stopped EATING as she admits to needing therapy after relocating to New York with her children

As a dedicated follower of Lily Allen’s journey, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of empathy towards her struggle with mental health and eating issues. Having gone through my own battles with anxiety and disordered eating, I understand the complexities that come with trying to juggle a public life while dealing with inner demons.

Lily Allen has revealed that she is ‘not in a great place mentally’ and has stopped eating.

39-year-old singer is attending therapy sessions to deal with various matters following their family move to New York alongside their daughters Ethel Mary (age 13) and Marny Rose (age 11), along with husband David Harbour.

On their shared podcast titled “Miss Me?”, Lily openly disclosed her personal struggles regarding her mental health.

The singer famed for her hits about smiling discussed its influence on her appetite, as she confessed that she has abstained from eating and rarely experiences hunger.

Lily shared, “Over the past several months, I’ve been dealing with some difficulties, and now, it seems my eating habits have become problematic.

In our recent sessions, my therapist has been inquiring about something, asking me, “So, when did this start exactly?” To which I replied, “To be honest, it’s been around for about three years now.” Her response was, “Hmm, why is it that you haven’t brought this up before?

As a dedicated follower, I haven’t made it a priority to discuss this matter, perhaps due to its perceived lower importance in the moment. However, I want to clarify that it is by no means unimportant, and I will address it when the opportunity arises.

Lily mentioned, “I struggle with discussing larger concepts because I tend not to connect things, which is also related to my ADHD.

Additionally, I view my mind and body as distinct entities. While many others perceive them as intrinsically linked, for me they function independently. I tend to dwell more within my thoughts rather than focusing on my physical self.

At present, I’m not in a good mental state and I’ve lost my appetite. Despite the fact that my body is sending signals of hunger, these messages aren’t making it to my brain, creating a disconnect between my body and mind regarding food.

I’m not intentionally ignoring food; rather, my mind is preoccupied, causing me to overlook eating for the moment. My body seems to be lagging slightly behind.

Last year, Lily openly discussed her habit of frequently forgetting to eat, admitting that she finds it challenging to consume meals not specifically prepared and brought for her.

She mentioned that she adores food, yet she can often go for extended periods without eating due to being occupied with caring for her two daughters.

Additionally, Lily mentioned that she isn’t particularly fond of fast food because she adopts a ‘dissimilar perspective towards capitalism when it comes to dining.’

2021 saw Lily having to counter criticism from internet bullies who commented on her weight loss, labeling her as appearing ‘unusually slim’, following the sharing of a video snippet from her guest spot on The Lateish Show hosted by Mo Gilligan.

She informed one critic that for the past two years, I have been entirely abstinent from alcohol, haven’t smoked a single cigarette, and made exercise a daily routine.

In response to another she wrote: ‘Seriously, where do you get off? You know NOTHING about me or my lifestyle. How dare you.’

This year in March, Lily shared the reasons behind her significant choice to relocate her two young daughters away from their current life in another country and establish a new home in America.

On a recent episode of her podcast on BBC Sounds, Lily and her friend Miquita Oliver discussed the latest award ceremonies. They noted a striking difference between the emotional expressiveness shown by Americans and the more reserved nature of the British, which they referred to as ‘stush’.

Lily mentioned that one factor leading to her relocation was discovering a significantly more supportive atmosphere, ideal for helping her kids flourish and prosper.

One illustration could be me choosing to perform in a play, despite having no acting background or theater experience.

When I mention this to Americans, they often respond enthusiastically: “Wow, that sounds amazing! You’re going to absorb a wealth of knowledge, and you’ll excel at it!

Then, when I shared this with the English folks, their response was often something like: “You’ve never acted in a play before? Aren’t you nervous about it?” It’s clear that our cultural backgrounds are quite distinct.
