Lil Nas X, the Grammy-winning artist, is making progress towards a possible resolution in his police battery case.
A judge in Los Angeles has allowed Lil Nas X, the artist behind hits like “Industry Baby” and “Old Town Road,” to enter a mental health program instead of facing criminal charges. According to reports, the 26-year-old, whose real name is Montero Hill, will have four felony charges dropped if he successfully completes the two-year program and stays out of trouble.
An attorney for the singer and rapper, who was arrested naked in Studio City last August, didn’t respond to requests for comment on Monday. Lil Nas X, appearing at Van Nuys Courthouse for a hearing, said he was feeling grateful and reiterated that he misses his fans.
He told Rolling Stone reporter Nancy Dillon outside the courthouse that he was simply taking things as they come.

Lil Nas X, the Grammy-winning artist, was hospitalized and arrested early Thursday in Studio City after allegedly rushing towards a police officer.
Lil Nas X, the artist behind the 2019 hit “Old Town Road,” was briefly hospitalized and arrested in August after being seen walking around Studio City in just his underwear and boots. By the time police apprehended him, he had removed even those items of clothing.
The singer was taken to a local hospital after a possible overdose, but was also accused of attacking police officers. He faces four serious charges: three counts of injuring officers and one count of resisting arrest. Police claim the singer became violent while they were attempting to detain him. Lil Nas X has denied all the charges.
Wow, after what happened in Studio City, I was so relieved to see Lil Nas X post online and let everyone know he was okay. He said those four days were absolutely terrifying – can you imagine? – but he’s doing alright now, which is the most important thing. It’s good to know he’s recovering from that experience.
According to Rolling Stone, Judge Alan Schneider stated in Monday’s hearing that the singer’s actions in August were unusual for him and linked to his bipolar disorder. The judge also noted the artist “seems to be doing well” and benefits greatly from treatment, which also positively impacts those around him, according to the report.
