Retribution is the third film to be made based on the 2015 Spanish-French thriller, The Stranger. The original movie centers around a man and his children trapped in a car, threatened by a mysterious caller who has planted a bomb that will detonate if anyone tries to leave. The original film was highly praised, earning a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Since then, the story has been remade twice. A German version, Don’t. Get. Out!, came out in 2018, and a South Korean remake, Hard Hit, was released in 2021, also receiving generally positive reviews with a 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
