Letitia Wright’s Shuri will pass the mantle in Black Panther 3
As a longtime MCU enthusiast with a soft spot for the Black Panther series, I must say that this latest development has me both excited and a tad nostalgic. The idea of Shuri passing the mantle to T’Challa II is not only intriguing but also feels like a natural progression in the saga.
In the midst of all the buzz surrounding recent Marvel Cinematic Universe updates, there’s one detail that is bound to surprise you beyond learning about characters in Avengers 5, previously known as The Kang Dynasty: Shuri taking over as Black Panther in Black Panther 3, passing on the role to a younger T’Challa.
The news originates from Alex Perez at Cosmic Circus, folks. Indeed, Marvel Cinematic Universe enthusiasts, it has been revealed that Letitia Wright’s character Shuri, the Princess of Wakanda who took over as Black Panther after her brother’s demise, will pass on the title to her nephew T’Challa II in the upcoming third movie.
Using DNA samples from her deceased brother T’Challa, fibers taken from Namor’s bracelet, and synthesizing an artificial version of the Heart-Shaped Herb, Shuri assumed the mantle of the Black Panther. After subduing Namor and ending the conflict, Shuri decided to stay in Haiti with Nakia and met her nephew, T’Challa II.
In the fifth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and at the time this article was written, the whereabouts or status of Shuri and her nephew were unclear, as they were not featured in the “Eyes of Wakanda” animated series. It remains undecided if Ryan Coogler will direct a third Black Panther movie, but it’s generally thought to be probable.
It could be logical for Shuri to hand over the mantle to T’Challa’s child when we encounter T’Challa II next. By that time, he might have grown significantly older compared to his last appearance in Wakanda Forever. A captivating aspect will be whether Marvel decides to bring back actress Letitia Wright as Shuri or opt for a new actor/actress, much like how they recast Cassie Lang with Kathryn Newton in the Ant-Man films.
