Legendary journalist and author Colin Chapman dies at age 87

Legendary broadcaster and journalist Colin Chapman has died at the age of 87.
This seasoned journalist and editor boasted a career with the BBC, The New York Times, and ABC, and had additionally penned numerous books.
For a number of years, it’s said that the ex-deputy editor of The Australian newspaper and writer for Australian Outlook, Chapman, was struggling with his health. Eventually, he sadly passed away.
It was announced on Monday by the Australian Institute of International Affairs that Chapman passed away over the weekend.
Prior to his death, he was undergoing dialysis three times a week and had been declared legally blind.
Hailing from the United Kingdom in 1937, Chapman embarked on a long-standing career in media there before eventually adopting Australian citizenship.
He went on to work in radio and TV for the BBC, and in Australia for the ABC.
In the UK Chapman had important stints with The Sunday Times and the Financial Times.
Chapman also made his mark writing for The Washington Post.
In Australia, Chapman also worked for famed news magazine The Bulletin as an assistant editor.
Later on, he was appointed as the deputy editor for The Australian newspaper, a position he held for three years. Subsequently, he served as the executive producer for ABC radio’s leading current affairs program, PM, for a duration of three years.

Chapman was also a founding producer of the ABC’s The World Today.
Over the past few years, he developed a strong connection with the magazine “Australian Outlook,” which delves into Australian politics and international affairs.
Known for his expertise in politics, Chapman was additionally proficient in economics and gained recognition as an exceptional international news reporter.
Throughout his extensive professional journey, some tales he reported on encompassed incidents like terror acts in Hong Kong during the 1960s, as well as global disputes in Africa and the Suez area.

Additionally, he filmed news segments about significant historical events for the BBC, such as the fall of the Shah’s rule in Iran.
Chapman also made news specials for the BBC in Greece, South Africa and Japan.

His last years were spent with his wife Susan Grice in Tavira in Portugal.
