Hideo Kojima is partnering with ASUS to create a special edition gaming tablet called the ROG Flow Z13-KJP. It’s based on the existing ROG Flow Z13, but with a unique design inspired by Kojima’s creative vision. The project centers around the idea “For Ludens Who Dare,” which combines the core values of both Kojima Productions and ROG.
Hideo Kojima’s concept of moving ‘From Sapiens to Ludens’ suggests humans learn and evolve through all forms of play and creative expression. This aligns perfectly with the ROG spirit of ‘For Those Who Dare,’ which emphasizes a commitment to continuous innovation.
The ROG Flow Z13-KJP truly captures the spirit of “For Ludens Who Dare.” It’s a stunning device that not only looks great, but also competes well with other tablets, making it a particularly attractive choice for fans of Hideo Kojima.
The ROG Flow Z13-KJP Isn’t Just a Skin
Hideo Kojima is known for many games, but Death Stranding remains particularly special. That’s why the ROG Flow Z13-KJP was designed with the game in mind. It even comes in a sleek briefcase inspired by the one Sam Porter carries, making the tablet feel like important cargo that needs to be shielded from the elements.
This case isn’t just for looks; it actually works well. We used it every day while testing the tablet, and it provided solid protection without feeling bulky. It’s sure to turn heads, but it’s a perfect match for the device.
The ROG Flow Z13-KJP is truly impressive, thanks to the artistic touch of Yoji Shinkawa, art director from Kojima Productions. Its air vents are designed with delicate, strand-like details, and the color scheme perfectly matches the signature KJP aesthetic. Despite its robust build, the device remains lightweight, weighing in at approximately four pounds.
ROG Flow Z13-KJP’s Performance Is on Par with Other Gaming Laptops
To really see how well the ROG Flow Z13-KJP performs, I tested it with demanding games, starting with Death Stranding. It ran smoothly, consistently achieving around 80 frames per second with the graphics settings on High. It would have been ideal to test Death Stranding 2: On the Beach as well, but it wasn’t yet available for PC. Fortunately, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will be included with the ROG Flow Z13-KJP, so players will be able to experience both games on this device.
The pre-installed Armoury Crate software is a welcome addition, as it lets you adjust performance with three different settings: Silent, Performance, and Turbo. Performance mode worked well for most games, while Turbo mode was used to really maximize the device’s power. We tested this with demanding games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Cyberpunk 2077.
After some adjustments, Cyberpunk 2077 ran smoothly at 60 frames per second with all the graphics settings turned up. Red Dead Redemption 2 experienced occasional slowdowns, but generally performed well. The biggest drawback is the battery life, which drains quickly. It can also get quite hot, and the fan noise might bother some users.
This device handles most games very well. I tested a lot of different titles, and they all ran smoothly, even after adjusting the settings. While it’s not the absolute most powerful device available – a dedicated gaming laptop would still offer more raw power – the ROG Flow Z13-KJP performs admirably for its intended purpose.
The Tablet of the ROG Flow Z13-KJP Gets Users in a Creative Mood
The ROG Flow Z13-KJP is a versatile 2-in-1 gaming tablet designed for flexibility. It features a robust kickstand for comfortable laptop-style use, and a detachable keyboard that transforms it into a standard tablet. Typing and working on the device, like writing articles, is smooth and responsive thanks to the fast 180 Hz refresh rate and the keyboard’s design.
The keyboard is a standout feature – it not only looks sleek, but it’s also incredibly comfortable to type on, with each key feeling solid and responsive. While it might seem unusual to focus on the keyboard, it’s easily the best I’ve ever used, and it easily connects and disconnects. Beyond work, the tablet is great for relaxing and enjoying shows or movies, and the screen makes everything look vibrant and clear.
ROG Flow Z13-KJP Is Highly Recommended But Has 1 Major Flaw
The ROG Flow Z13-KJP is a fantastic device, but its high price tag – $3,699.99 – is a major consideration. Even considering current prices for tech, that’s a significant investment for most buyers.
The regular ROG Flow Z13 typically costs about $2,000. We were hoping the Z13-KJP version would be priced similarly, but the Hideo Kojima branding has increased the cost. Thankfully, it’s more than just a cosmetic change – it really feels like a special edition inspired by Kojima’s work.
The ROG Flow Z13-KJP is a significant purchase, costing over $3,000, but it delivers a fantastic experience. It’s both stylish and powerful, handling both gaming and creative tasks with ease. Plus, its portability makes it great for people on the go. While it’s a big investment, the ROG Flow Z13-KJP is definitely worth considering.
ROG Flow Z13-KJP is currently available for pre-order and will be released on March 3, 2026.
