As a fellow individual who has walked a similar path, I wholeheartedly empathize with Kit Harington’s journey and feel immense respect for his courage to share his story. His struggle with alcohol addiction is not uncommon, and it takes great strength to acknowledge and address one’s issues, especially when they are deeply personal.

Kit Harington openly expresses gratitude for overcoming his alcohol dependency prior to becoming a parent.

In 2019, Kit Harington, a cast member of Game of Thrones at age 37, entered a rehabilitation center located in the United States to receive therapy for stress management and alcohol dependency. This was due in part to his shared children with his wife, Rose Leslie, who is also a former co-star of his.

In an open conversation with GQ, Kit (the actor known for his role as Jon Snow on HBO) shared that during his heavy drinking phase, he experienced intense self-loathing and found it difficult to take pride in his accomplishments.

However, once he conquered his personal struggles and began a family, he now feels transformed into someone completely new.

In conversation about his recovery, Kit shared this insight: “It’s fortunate that I became sober before having children… as there were periods where abstaining from alcohol seemed both physically and emotionally unattainable for me.”

He went on to say: ‘Prior to becoming sober, I used to look at myself in the mirror and label myself as a wretched individual. I held intense contempt for myself. I detested myself so much that there was nothing about me that I could take pride in. I couldn’t find anything worthy of being proud of. However, the simple fact that I am now proud of my sobriety speaks volumes about how much I have changed as a person.’

In my past, alcohol was an overwhelming burden, much like a colossal monkey clinging to my shoulders and pulling me under its weight. However, today, I’m delighted to say that the prospect of being proud of myself has become a refreshing novelty after shedding this heavy load, having achieved sobriety.

Although he has changed his perspective on life, the actor confessed that he can’t promise he won’t slip up and revert to old habits. He even mentioned that his potential lapse might be messy and chaotic.

In 2018, Kit and his spouse, Rose (aged 37), got married in Scotland. They are parents to a three-year-old child, with another daughter born in June 2023 joining their family.

The celebrity, speaking further, expressed that having children has significantly reduced his self-focus, with life’s priorities now revolving more around them.

He mentioned: “I openly admit I’m quite self-focused, yet I believe I’m a giving and caring individual as well. However, when it comes to children, you can’t remain self-focused. They help you let go of that. And this transformation is truly a wonderful present. Children, in their essence, are incredibly self-centered; they only consider themselves.”

After Kit admitted that he was yearning for his loved ones, having been away from them during his recent attendance at the season three premiere of his popular HBO show Industry in New York City last week.

Kit told how he recently missed his baby girl ‘taking her first steps’ while he was away filming.

The actor told Extra: ‘My little girl just took her first steps the other day. I’m doing a play in London and I’m missing them a lot.

‘I have a boy and a girl now. I couldn’t be more blessed.

‘They are the most beautiful children in every single way. They are just gorgeous.’

Previously this year, Kit mentioned that during Rose’s second pregnancy, they approached things in a more ‘down-to-earth’ manner compared to when they welcomed their son, where their perspective was more ‘sentimental’ or ‘romantic’ regarding parenthood.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, he stated, “We’re currently taking a very pragmatic approach. In fact, perhaps we’re a bit overly pragmatic.”

With our firstborn, the experience was more romantic or idealized; however, with our second child, it felt more pragmatic and business-like.

‘We know how efficient we have to be. Let’s get down to parenting.

As a parent myself, I can attest to the fact that raising young children often blurs the lines of time and memory, making it challenging to recall specific moments from our early years as parents. This is because, much like my own mother said, having kids has a unique way of forcing us to be incredibly present in the moment. With their ever-changing needs and rapid development, there’s little room for anything else but being fully engaged with our little ones. It’s both exhausting and rewarding, as we navigate through this incredible journey together.
