Kirsten Dunst had a slightly embarrassing wardrobe issue when she arrived at the Universal BAFTA afterparty held at Oswald’s, a private club in London, on Sunday.
Oh dear, you won’t believe what happened to me at the awards show! I was there supporting my husband, Jesse Plemmons, who was nominated for Best Actor, and I had a little wardrobe malfunction. My skirt actually tore, and let’s just say there was a bit of a close call! It was definitely a moment, but thankfully, we all had a good laugh about it.
Kristen wore a quirky pink jacket with oversized, puffed sleeves over her black and white dress, which was now unfortunately ruined.
Despite a small incident, the actress looked cheerful as she arrived at the party, where she joined Best Actress winner Jessie Buckley and Emma Stone, who starred alongside her husband in ‘Bugonia’.
Kirsten and Jesse, married in 2022, showed their affection for each other on the red carpet, shortly after Kirsten publicly expressed her disappointment that Jesse wasn’t nominated for an Oscar. You can find more details about the story here.
The couple, who have two sons – seven-year-old Ennis and four-year-old James – were very affectionate with each other before the ceremony.
The film One Battle After Another was the major success at Sunday night’s British Academy Film Awards, winning six awards at the ceremony held at London’s Royal Festival Hall.
I was absolutely thrilled when Everything Everywhere All at Once finally took home the awards it deserved! It had already broken records with 14 nominations, and seeing it win Best Picture, with Paul Thomas Anderson getting Best Director, and accolades for the adapted screenplay, supporting actor, cinematography, and editing, was just incredible. It felt like all the hard work and creativity truly paid off, and I couldn’t have been happier for the whole team.
Jessie Buckley was named Best Actress for her performance in Hamnet, as many predicted. However, the awards ceremony still held a few surprises, with Timothée Chalamet losing out on the Best Actor award to a local star.
Although many expected Timothée to win for his performance in Marty Supreme, Robert Aramayo, known for I Swear, ultimately took home the award.
As a lifestyle expert, I was really touched by the acceptance speech at the Best Film award for ‘As One Battle For Another’. Producer Sarah Murphy shared that their team deeply wished their producing partner, Adam Somner, could have been there to celebrate with them, especially since it was on his home ground. It was a beautiful moment of remembrance and a testament to their collaborative spirit.
Director Paul Thomas Anderson expressed his gratitude for the recognition his film received, calling it a tremendous honor.
I know there are other good movies out there, but anyone who claims movies aren’t good anymore is wrong. This has been an exceptionally strong year for film.
He added that he planned to go and find a ‘bar somewhere to go celebrate.’
The night’s biggest disappointment was the ping pong drama Marty Supreme. Despite being a frontrunner with 11 nominations, the show didn’t win a single award.
Jessie is considered a frontrunner to win the Best Actress Oscar, and she used her acceptance speech to express gratitude to the other nominees.
She expressed how honored she was, saying she never imagined as a child that she’d have the opportunity to make a film, but here she is, living that dream.
I met my agent, Lindy King, in London looking quite a mess – I had a terrible fake tan, large white hoop earrings, and a red polka dot skirt and top. Despite my appearance, I actually told her I hoped to become an actress like Judi Dench.
Honestly, I’m still reeling from the fact she even thought she could pull that off! It’s just… incredible. But you know what? It’s not about her. It’s about all the amazing women who’ve inspired me, who’ve shown me a better way, and continue to do so. They deserve all the credit, truly.
While thanking her fellow nominees, Jessie accidentally left out Kate Hudson and jokingly asked the audience, ‘Did I forget anyone?’ She then expressed her admiration for everyone’s performances, saying, ‘Thank you all for your incredible work.’
Let me tell you, the room was absolutely buzzing when the Best Actor winner was announced! Everyone was shocked – in the best way, of course – when Robert took home the award for ‘I Swear’. He beat out some serious talent, including Timothée and Leonardo DiCaprio, and you could feel the surprise ripple through the audience. It was a truly unexpected win, and a really exciting moment!
When Robert’s son was recognized, his father instantly leapt up, excitedly shouting and jumping for joy.
Standing on stage, Aramayo expressed disbelief, saying, ‘I can’t believe this is happening. It’s incredible to be here, looking out at all of you.’
At the awards show on Sunday, One Battle After Another was the biggest winner with six awards. Sinners, Frankenstein, and I Swear each received three awards, and Hamnet won two.
