Kingdom Come: Deliverance has become a highly regarded RPG series, starting with the original game in 2018 and continuing with a very successful sequel released last year. This success has given director Daniel Vávra influence in the gaming industry, and he is now moving on to new projects.
Despite recently directing two very popular games, Jan Vávra is leaving the video game industry to pursue filmmaking. He’s stepping down from game development to focus on leading the movie adaptation of his game, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, as revealed in a CzechCrunch interview (translated by VGC).
Kingdom Come: Deliverance Movie Will Be Made By Game Director

Studio head Martin Frývaldský announced that Dan has taken on a new project: developing the ‘Kingdom Come’ movie. He also emphasized that Dan’s departure from his previous work was amicable and a personal choice, not a forced one.
People might think this signals a split with Warhorse, but that’s not the case at all. Dan himself wanted to pursue new opportunities. He successfully created three popular games and had been looking to try something different for a while now.
As a big fan, I’m really excited to hear they’re still working on getting Kingdom Come to the screen – hopefully within the next few years! It’s great to know Dan’s now focused on making that happen. While we won’t see him around the Warhorse office as much, he’s still very much a part of the team, which is awesome.

While it’s sad to see Vávra leave the Warhorse team, there’s a positive side: the upcoming Kingdom Come: Deliverance movie has people involved who actually understand the games. This should help ensure the movie stays true to the original story, but only time will tell if that’s enough for it to succeed.
