Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 nearly had a San-Andreas-like Fat Henry system that would have let you create Bohemia’s chunkiest boy, and forced you to wear clothes that fit to boot

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is a unique game. While most games aim for simplicity, KCD2 deliberately makes things challenging. Consider the armor: in typical games, equipping armor is quick and easy. But in KCD2, you have to carefully put on each piece to avoid discomfort – you need to make sure all those metal parts don’t chafe!

The game could have been even more detailed. Warhorse co-founder and executive producer Martin Klima told PC Gamer they considered a system where Henry’s weight changed based on how much he ate, impacting what clothes and armor he could wear. Ultimately, they decided to remove this feature.

Right now, in the released game, players can wear any clothes they find. But originally, we considered a system where characters had different body types – some were bigger, some smaller – and their clothes would fit the player differently, appearing too big or too small.

Old Henry was designed to be adaptable. If you found impressive armor too big for you, you could gain weight to fill it out. Essentially, eating would make your character larger, allowing new clothes to fit while making old ones too small. Conversely, you could lose weight to shrink your character and wear different items. It was a dynamic sizing system based on your character’s weight.

Unfortunately, Warhorse decided against the idea, believing the existing clothing system was already complicated enough. According to Klima, it would have been “too bizarre, too much work, and not really that much fun.” They felt adding another layer of complexity wasn’t necessary, and so the idea of a heavier-set Henry was abandoned.
