Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has almost hit 2 million sales, a ‘reminder’ to parent company Embracer ‘to bring great products to the market’

According to VGC reports, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has nearly doubled its sales to almost two million units across all platforms within just a fortnight of reaching one million in sales on its release day alone. This impressive figure seems to have served as a useful reminder for developer Warhorse’s overarching company, The Embracer Group, that creating quality games that appeal to and are sought after by consumers is a fundamental aspect of running a successful business.

In response to the positive reception of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors emphasized the importance of their fundamental mission – providing top-tier products to consumers. He highlighted that exceptional teams require adequate resources and time to bring their ideas to life. When a company invests in its team, it benefits everyone involved, including gamers, employees, and shareholders. Wingefors expressed confidence that Embracer will continue to thrive in its key business sectors in the future.

It’s becoming increasingly controversial within executive circles that common sense suggests – experienced game developers are often pushed to work on projects outside their expertise or passion, which ultimately lead to the failure of those games and, in some cases, the dissolution of the development teams. For example, Daedalic Entertainment, owned by Embracer, was successful in creating 2D adventure games. However, when it was tasked with the development of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum – a licensed triple-A action-adventure game – the team faced challenges and eventually had to let go of one-third of its workforce and abandon developing their own games entirely.

One of the leading publishers in the gaming industry, Embracer Group, was among the early victims of the ongoing layoffs crisis, which has been a significant blow given its extensive acquisitions over multiple years. Notably, this includes companies like Gearbox (now owned by Take-Two), Saber (purchased by Beacon Interactive), Dark Horse Comics, Eidos Montreal, Plaion, and several others. The recent layoffs and the cancellation of a new Deus Ex game have been particularly painful for fans, as they come on the heels of Embracer Group’s aggressive spending spree in the gaming industry.

If the notion that quality video games, given enough effort and time, will ultimately prove profitable and beneficial for business truly becomes accepted, why should I remain resentful about the past? Kudos to Warhorse Studios for its impressive sales of an intriguingly unusual game. At least!
