As a longtime fan, I was really surprised to see Kim Basinger publicly acknowledge Alec Baldwin! It’s been 24 years since their difficult divorce, and I never expected her to reach out like that. It genuinely seemed to catch him off guard, which made it even more interesting to see.

The 72-year-old Academy Award winner shared a clip from the 1990 film The Marrying Man, a movie they fondly remember making, to celebrate its 35th anniversary.

Alec Baldwin played Charley Pearl, a wealthy man about to get married, who becomes attracted to Vicki Anderson (Kim Basinger), the girlfriend of a gangster named Bugsy Siegel. The 1950s romantic comedy, directed by Jerry Rees, wasn’t well-received by critics and lost money, earning only $12.4 million on a $26 million budget.

Before the film came out, Premiere magazine published an article detailing how the couple reportedly made working on set difficult for the crew. The article claimed he had angry outbursts and she was frequently late, creating a stressful environment.

Looking back, that day was terrible. We were just sitting there, feeling sad and like it wasn’t right. She told Entertainment Weekly in 1991 that Disney was so focused on getting us both that they ruined the film.

I absolutely did not intentionally sabotage the film – that’s completely false! I’ve never experienced anything like this before. This whole situation feels manufactured and unfair. Many other movies have faced far bigger issues than we did.

As someone who’s spent years observing the entertainment industry, I’ve noticed a frustrating pattern. So many fantastic films are derailed by issues with substance abuse – whether it’s the actors on screen or the directors calling the shots. What bothers me most is the silence around it. It’s rarely discussed publicly, and I truly believe that’s because the studios often allow these stories to surface only when it suits their purposes. It’s a calculated move, and frankly, it’s damaging to the art form and disrespectful to audiences.

Baldwin concluded: ‘The Marrying Man was the biggest mistake of my career.’

Kim Basinger, who received a Razzie Award nomination for a film written by Neil Simon, strongly denied claims that she was often late to set. In a 1991 interview with Nightline, she stated, ‘That’s a total lie. Absolutely a total lie.’

Kim Basinger and Alec Baldwin became grandparents when their daughter, Ireland, had a baby girl named Holland with her partner, musician RAC. Holland is now two years old.
