Okay, so Conan O’Brien, that guy just had to go after Kid Rock at the Oscars, right? Like, a full-on roast! And honestly, Kid Rock wasn’t having it at all. He totally clapped back – he didn’t just let Conan get away with that. It was amazing, honestly, seeing him defend himself!
During Sunday’s halftime show event, O’Brien made fun of Kid Rock, 55, for participating in an alternative Super Bowl performance organized by Turning Point USA. Kid Rock, however, responded by saying the joke wasn’t funny.
During his hosting of the Oscars, O’Brien jokingly cautioned the audience that the 2026 show might become politically charged, then playfully criticized a popular musician known for supporting the MAGA movement.
O’Brien mentioned that if people are bothered by the Oscars becoming too political, Kid Rock is hosting an alternative event.
He playfully suggested that if Kid Rock hosted the Oscars, the ceremony would be held at Dave & Buster’s, jokingly adding that attendees would win ‘a lot of tickets.’
The musician posted on social media Monday, saying they enjoy being the subject of jokes, but felt a recent one wasn’t very funny.
He then promoted his upcoming tour, which kicks off on Friday, May 1, in Dallas.
If you’re looking for a fantastic show celebrating America’s 250 years of freedom this spring or summer, be sure to get your tickets for my Freedom 250 Tour – The Road To Nashville – through Ticketmaster. I really mean it – there’s a good reason for this!
Kid Rock’s All-American Halftime Show was created by Turning Point USA as a different option to the NFL’s halftime performance.
This event was organized as an alternative to the official Super Bowl LVI halftime show featuring Bad Bunny, which happened at Levi’s Stadium during the game.
Despite attracting almost five million viewers at the same time, many fans noticed what they considered a problem with the show.
Immediately after the livestream finished, many fans went to X (formerly Twitter) to accuse Kid Rock of obviously lip-syncing his performance.
Taking to X, one fan wrote: ‘Kid Rock doesn’t know how to lip sync his own songs’.
Okay, let me tell you, as someone who keeps a close eye on pop culture moments, that halftime show lip sync was…rough. I saw a lot of people online saying the same thing – it just didn’t quite hit the mark, and honestly, it was a little disappointing to watch. It’s always tough when those performances don’t live up to the hype!
Fans questioned why Kid Rock appeared to be lip-syncing during his performance, with one person asking, “Why does Kid Rock lip sync everything?” Another pointed out a noticeable error, asking if anyone would address the “Kid Rock lip sync malfunction.”
Okay, so he totally denied lip-syncing, which, duh, everyone was talking about. Then he got all mysterious and said if anything looked off between what I saw and what I heard, it was the fault of TPUSA’s video team – they messed up the syncing! But honestly? By saying that, he basically admitted the whole thing was pre-recorded! He said he’d seen an edit of it beforehand, which means it wasn’t live! I knew it! Still, I’m obsessed, and it doesn’t change how I feel about him, honestly.
Kid Rock performed at a halftime show billed as an alternative to the usual event, and was joined by Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett.
During his opening speech, O’Brien playfully embarrassed Timothée Chalamet by referencing the recent joke Chalamet made about opera and ballet, doing so in front of many other actors and industry professionals.
O’Brien hosted the show for the second year running, having previously taken the job from Jimmy Kimmel.
He quickly addressed Timothée Chalamet, a Best Actor nominee, joking about the actor’s recent comment that people aren’t interested in ballet or opera during his opening remarks.
Wearing a tuxedo, O’Brien addressed the audience at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre, simply stating, ‘Security is very tight tonight.’
He jokingly mentioned hearing worries about potential criticism from people involved with both opera and ballet.
Oh my god, the camera finally showed Timothée! He was right there, looking all adorable and a little nervous, with Kylie beside him. She looked amazing, of course, but all I could focus on was how cute he looked! I swear, he’s perfect, even when he’s a little shy. It was a fleeting moment, but I rewound it like five times!
‘They’re just mad you left out jazz,’ O’Brien jokingly added.
Chalamet wasn’t the only A-list star to be called out by O’Brien.
He playfully teased Leonardo DiCaprio about his expressions and didn’t hold back when joking with Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos, suggesting it was the executive’s first time attending a live performance.
