K-pop producers arrested in hotel drug bust during girl group XG’s tour

Two producers behind some of K-pop’s biggest hits have been arrested in a drug bust.

I was shocked to hear the news – Simon Jakops, whose real name is Junho Sakai, was arrested along with three other men in Nagoya, Japan on Monday. Reports say they were caught with cocaine. It’s just unbelievable, and as a long-time fan, I’m really worried about what happens next.

Police found four bags of a white powder and one bag containing what they believe was dried cannabis in a room around 12:20 a.m.

Sakai used to be in the South Korean boy band DMTN. Now, he’s famous for creating and producing the popular girl group XG, who’ve gained fans around the world since they started in 2022.

The arrest took place after XG’s second sold-out show at Nagoya’s IG Arena.

Reports from Malay Mail and Japan’s TBS indicate that Kim Jung-seung, a 39-year-old Korean-American producer and artist who also goes by the names Chancellor and Michael Kim, is among those arrested.

Kim has been a major player in South Korea’s hip-hop and R&B scene for more than a decade.

He’s also produced K-pop music and worked with major artists like Taeyeon from Girls’ Generation.

Kim has been working with Sakai as a producer for the group XG, and has written and produced many of their popular songs in recent years.

XG’s record label released a statement on Thursday, clarifying that the group had no involvement in the issue.

They stated that they are working with authorities who are currently investigating the matter.

Okay, so XG finally said something too! They posted it for all 3.4 million of us Junnies to see on Instagram – I checked like, every five minutes waiting for it, honestly. It was everything, and I screenshotted it immediately, of course.

‘We sincerely apologize for the delay in sharing our message,’ they wrote.

I’m absolutely reeling from the news, honestly! It’s just…so unexpected, and I’m still trying to wrap my head around it all. It really hits home how much their fans – we – mean to them, you know? It’s like, in times like these, you realize just how important all the love and support has been. It’s just…everything.

We’ll always stay true to ourselves and give our all to XG. We want to enjoy every moment of this journey and share it with you all as we move forward together.

As XG moves forward, we’re staying true to ourselves and the unique path we’ve always followed. We truly appreciate your ongoing support and understanding as we continue this journey – it means the world to us!

Daily Mail has contacted XGALX for comment.

XG made their debut in 2022 with the singles Tippy Toes and Mascara.

This Japanese group stands out because they use the K-pop training and production methods common in South Korea, even though none of its members are Korean.

The group’s identity has sparked debate, with people discussing whether they fit better into the J-pop or K-pop categories.

Okay, seriously, XG has just exploded! It’s been amazing to watch them take over the world these past two years, even though sometimes their concept is a little mysterious – which, honestly, just makes me want to know more about them! They’ve really made a huge impact, and I’m completely obsessed.

They performed at Coachella last April and then on the finale of NBC’s The Voice.

While they’ve had two albums chart in the US Billboard 200, the band has found most of its success in Japan and South Korea.

The group has partnered with major companies like Nike and McDonald’s, and recently, Cocona became Gucci’s newest brand ambassador on February 5th.

On their 20th birthday in December, Cocona publicly shared that they are transmasculine non-binary in a heartfelt social media post.

Cocona announced she’s turned 20 and shared a personal message to mark the occasion, saying, ‘Today, I’m starting a new chapter in my life, and I want to share something I’ve been thinking about for a while.’

‘I am [assigned female at birth] transmasculine non-binary. Earlier this year, I had top surgery.’

The celebrity shared that they were assigned female at birth, but that gender never felt right. They identify as masculine and feel most authentic living as such. They said the biggest challenge of their life was learning to accept and love themselves for who they are.

XG are currently wrapping up the Japanese leg of their second world tour.

More tour dates are coming soon for North America, Europe, Australia, Latin America, and other locations.
