Junior Andre has pushed back against the label ‘nepo baby,’ explaining that he’s financially supporting his music career himself by working a full-time job on the London Underground.
The 20-year-old musician responded to accusations that his famous parents, Peter Andre and Katie Price, gave him an unfair advantage, emphasizing that he earns his success through hard work and doesn’t expect anything to be given to him.
In 2022, Junior launched his music career with the single ‘Slide,’ which quickly reached number one on the iTunes pop chart in the UK. A year later, his next song, ‘Only One,’ also topped the charts.
I always knew he had it in him! It was so clear he was going to be just like his father, and it wasn’t long before people in the music industry noticed. He signed his first record deal really quickly – I was thrilled for him!
Despite staying in the public eye, the release of any new music was repeatedly delayed in the following months.
Junior explained that he hadn’t released any new music lately because he was dealing with some personal difficulties, but assured fans that new songs would be released eventually.
Oh my gosh, you guys, I just watched the latest episode of Princess’ show, and he actually talked about it! He admitted that trying to make it as a singer is, like, really expensive! It’s so good to see him being real about the struggles, you know? It’s not all glitz and glamour, apparently! I’m so proud he’s chasing his dream, even if it’s a financial headache!
Let me tell you, a lot of people assume artists are supported by their families, but that wasn’t my experience at all! I was determined to fund my music career myself, so I actually held down a regular 9-to-5 job and did night shifts working on the London Underground. It was tough, but it meant I could pursue my passion independently – I definitely wasn’t relying on my parents!
On her show, The Princess Diaries, the 18-year-old princess enthusiastically praised her older brother’s dedication, saying she was proud of his efforts to achieve his goals and calling his music ‘really great’.
She explained that despite his last two songs reaching number one, he had to work nights and a full-time job while resolving issues with his record label, making him completely independent. She added that she was very proud of him.
Talking with his sister at the recording studio, Junior shared that it had been a long and difficult journey.
I’ve definitely had to work a regular job, nine-to-five, Monday through Friday, and even overnight shifts, because making music requires money. A lot of people don’t realize that. I support myself financially; I don’t rely on my parents like some might assume.
He explained to the camera that he’s realized nothing comes easy and he has to work hard to achieve his goals. He understands he won’t be simply given what he wants.
I took a physically demanding night job working on the London Underground – things like lifting heavy materials, cutting, filing, and painting. I needed the money to support my music career and make it financially possible.
He said he’ll be incredibly grateful when he finally reaches his goals, knowing how much effort he’s put in.
Both siblings expressed their frustration with being called ‘nepo babies,’ emphasizing that they each have their own unique skills and abilities.
Princess expressed frustration with people who suggest her success is solely due to her family connections, saying it bothers her when they imply she hasn’t earned her position.
You know, there’s a lot of talk about ‘nepo babies’ these days, but honestly, I’m just following my passion. I’m doing what truly inspires me, and I’m grateful for the foundation my dad provided. Music isn’t just a career for me – it’s a deep love, and like him, I absolutely live for performing. It’s in my blood!
Princess continued, ‘People often assume things, but they don’t realize you also had a regular workday. Do you understand what I’m saying?’
We both recognize how fortunate we’ve been growing up with many advantages. Now, though, we’re pursuing our individual paths and using our unique skills.
In addition to his music career, Junior is now pursuing opportunities in television and film. He joined his father Peter’s acting agency, Ignite Elite Artists, back in October to help with this.
It was recently announced that he’ll be starring alongside Peter in the upcoming film, Finding My Voice, which comes out on March 28th.
I’m so excited to hear he’ll be acting alongside Michelle Ryan – she’s brilliant as Zoe Slater in EastEnders! And Kierston Wareing and the wonderful Vicki Michelle from ‘Allo ‘Allo!’ are joining the cast too. What a fantastic lineup!
The movie centers around Melanie (Anais Garness), a talented young singer-songwriter facing a difficult choice. When her family falls apart, she must decide if pursuing music is the right path for her.
The movie announced Junior’s casting and revealed he’ll be playing the character Johnny on their Instagram page.
The photos showed Johnny in his school uniform alongside his costars. The accompanying text explained his character: he’s a school friend of Mel’s and a consistent source of support when she needs encouragement.
Peter excitedly went to the comments to express how proud he was of his oldest child, writing ‘Yes, my son!’ and adding fire emojis.
Singer Alesha Dixon, known for her hit “The Mysterious Girl,” has acted before, most recently in the 2021 film, “On The Other Foot,” which sparked some debate.
