Jon Bernthal’s biggest title right now came as a complete surprise.
The award-winning actor has built a successful career in both television and film. He’s recently appeared in the TV series Daredevil: Born Again and the miniseries His & Hers, and his movie roles include action films like The Amateur and The Accountant 2. Throughout his career, Bernthal has consistently earned positive reviews, with many of his projects receiving high ratings on Rotten Tomatoes – often with a Tomatometer score of 90% or above.
Recent streaming numbers show that Jon Bernthal’s latest TV appearance is proving very popular. The episode, titled Gary and part of the show The Bear, has quickly climbed the streaming charts. It’s currently at number 4 in the U.S. on Hulu.
The song also performed well in other countries, reaching number 3 in the UK, Canada, and Australia, and number 6 in Brazil.
Fans were surprised when Hulu released “Gary” on May 5th. This special episode acts as a prequel and flashback, featuring familiar characters from The Bear. It arrived ahead of the show’s fifth and final season, which is being promoted to premiere on June 25th, giving viewers an unexpected early look at what’s to come.
Similar to the acclaimed Fishes episode of The Bear, and other important episodes in the series, Gary is a longer episode, running for a full hour. This extended runtime allows Scott Bernthal to showcase his acting skills, playing alongside Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Mikey several years before the events that begin season one.
The title isn’t about Gary, the sommelier from the restaurant in The Bear, but about the city of Gary, Indiana. Richie and Mikey are taking a road trip to Gary to deliver a package for Jimmy.
The new episode, Gary, is proving to be a hit with both audiences and critics. It currently has a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a solid 7.8 out of 10 stars on IMDb.
Similar to ‘Fishes’ and the other episodes that have garnered him Emmy nominations, ‘Gary’ is a standout performance for Bernthal. He’s truly excellent in this episode, supported by the consistently strong Moss-Bachrach and a memorable guest appearance by Marin Ireland. Although primarily a flashback, ‘Gary’ has important consequences for season 5 of ‘The Bear,’ making it essential viewing for fans.
