John Wick spin-off Ballerina confirms first trailer with new teaser
As a long-time John Wick fan with a soft spot for action-packed revenge stories, I must admit that my heart skipped a beat when I saw the teaser for Ballerina. The tantalizing 20-second clip, complete with a spinning ballerina carillon, has left me eagerly anticipating tomorrow’s full trailer release.
John Wick‘s hotly anticipated spinoff Ballerina starring Ana de Armas has just debuted a teaser.
Today (September 25), a recently shared 20-second video unveils an intriguing blend: a ringing carillon and a whirling ballerina, hinting at the release of the trailer tomorrow.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m all geared up for my next adventure in the John Wick universe! I’m referring to none other than “From the World of John Wick: Ballerina,” where I’ll be joining forces with Rooney, portrayed by Ana de Armas. In case you’ve forgotten, Rooney is a former ballerina who’s now an assassin and was first introduced in “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” (2019), where she was played by the talented dancer Unity Phelan. So buckle up, it’s time to dance our way through action-packed scenes!
The spinoff is led by Len Wiseman, who previously worked on “Underworld”, and Chad Stahelski from “John Wick” is contributing to extra action scenes. The script for this project was penned by Shay Hatten, along with Emerald Fennell and Michael Finch, who have collaborated on “John Wick Chapter 3” and “Chapter 4”, as well as “Promising Young Woman”.
Between the occurrences of the third and fourth films, the animated movie titled “Ballerina” will include a brief appearance by Wick, as portrayed by Keanu Reeves. This reprisal of the hitman character is set after the heartbreaking finale of “Chapter 4”.
The specifics about the upcoming movie, titled “Ballerina,” are still under wraps, but based on hints, it appears that this film could follow a similar theme as “John Wick” – a tale of vengeance.
Rooney is said to be looking to exact her vengeance after the death of her family.
In Chapter 3, we witnessed her giving a performance in front of her adoptive mother, who heads the Ruska Roma crime syndicate (referred to as The Director), portrayed by Anjelica Huston. This character is expected to reappear in the spinoff, along with Ian McShane’s character, Winston Scott, and Lance Reddick’s character, Charon, in his last on-screen appearance.
At present, there isn’t much additional information available. However, during CinemaCon in April, some exclusive footage was unveiled that depicted a meeting between Rooney and Wick, taking place at a train yard.
She says to him, “You are the one known as Baba Yaga,” and he wonders how to begin emulating your abilities (as reported in USA Today).
In an open conversation, De Armas discussed practicing a fight scene with Reeves, which hints at the inclusion of intense or stressful situations in the film.
Ballerina arrives in cinemas on June 6, 2025.
