I’m really excited – Jodie Comer’s got a new movie coming out this year called The Death of Robin Hood, and it sounds awesome! It’s a totally different take on the classic story, apparently much darker than what we’re used to. And if you want to see another movie where she messes with your expectations, there’s one you can check out beforehand.
Released in 2021, the historical drama The Last Duel tells the story of a knight in 14th-century France who challenges a friend to a duel after his wife accuses him of assault. The film uniquely presents the events from three viewpoints, letting the audience determine the truth.
If you didn’t get a chance to see The Last Duel in theaters, you can now watch it for free on Channel 4’s streaming service after it aired on Film4 last night. Alternatively, if you prefer to skip the ads, The Last Duel is currently available on Disney+.
What to Read Next
Ridley Scott directs The Last Duel, which features Jodie Comer as Marguerite de Carrouges, the central figure in the story. The film also stars Adam Driver, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Harriet Walter, and Alex Lawther.
The film currently has a high 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 294 reviews. Critics at the Chicago Sun-Times called it a “bloody fantastic drama,” and the San Jose Mercury News praised its “outstanding ensemble cast, led by Jodie Comer.”

In October 2021, Comer discussed with Digital Spy how filming a single scene from different angles was a “really interesting experience” and affected her performance with each take.
She explained that the dialogue was identical in both scenes, meaning the difference lay entirely in the actors’ performances and the emotions they conveyed. It was a very subtle change, and that was intentional – they wanted the shift to be almost unnoticeable.
It was really rewarding as an actress to explore different ways of playing a role, but it could also be confusing. You want to be true to your character’s feelings and motivations, but then you also have to understand and portray what drives the other characters.
The Last Duel is now available to watch on Channel 4’s streaming service and on Disney+.
The latest issue of Living Legends, a vibrant, full-colour 100-page magazine dedicated to Taylor Swift, is now available! You can purchase it at newsstands or online for only £8.99.
