Channel 4 has started filming a new four-part thriller called Careless, and has shared a first look at the main characters. Originally created by Australian broadcaster Stan, the drama is a collaboration between Stan, Channel 4, and Australia’s Nine Network.
Solly McLeod (known for roles in Fear and House of the Dragon), Katie Leung (currently in Bridgerton‘s fourth season), Robyn Malcolm (After The Party), and Richard Roxburgh (Rake) will star in the new drama. The series is written by Helen Fitzgerald, author of The Cry, and Louise Fox, who also worked on Broadchurch.
Robbie, a backpacker from Scotland, lands in Sydney and sets his sights on a unique job: becoming a live-in caregiver for Mike, a famous rock star recently diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. He successfully interviews and gets the position, much to his excitement.

As their friendship with Mike develops, he also becomes close to Mike’s wife, Angela (Robyn Malcolm), and ends up becoming a trusted friend to both of them.
As Robbie becomes more involved with Mike and Angela, a hidden part of his past emerges, threatening to put them both in significant danger.

Channel 4’s Head of Acquisitions praised Careless as a compelling psychological thriller with a fast-moving plot, complex characters, and a strong sense of suspense. They also highlighted its important message about systemic failures and how institutions designed to help people can sometimes let them down, believing this combination will resonate with the channel’s audience.
Michael Healy, a key executive at Nine Entertainment, called the series a thrilling and captivating story that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Channel 4’s upcoming reboot of A Woman of Substance has added Jo Joyner, known for her role in Stay Close, to the cast. She’ll star alongside Brenda Blethyn, who was previously announced as the lead. The series is based on the Barbara Taylor Bradford novel, which was originally adapted by Channel 4 in 1985.

This drama follows the inspiring story of a woman who overcomes hardship to achieve success over the course of the 20th century, challenging the norms of her time.
Katherine Jakeways, a co-writer on the project, shared that she was drawn to the original Channel 4 version because of its vibrant depiction of the era – think sweeping Yorkshire landscapes, big hair, bold fashion, and a lively spirit. She was eager to be a part of it.
She said it was incredibly exciting to revive the popular and dramatic story of ambition, desire, and revenge for viewers on Channel 4.
Careless and A Woman of Substance are coming to Channel 4 in the UK.
