Joanne McNally has an emotional reunion with her biological father and four half brothers in Melbourne: ‘Adoption is wild’

It was incredibly moving to see Joanne McNally finally meet her biological father, Kevin, and her four half-brothers! They all reunited in Australia, and honestly, it was such a special moment – I was so happy for them all.

Oh my gosh, you guys, I was completely glued to Instagram yesterday! My absolute favorite comedian, she’s 42, you know, the one who was adopted as a baby – only three months old! – she posted the cutest pictures from a family gathering. I’ve been following her forever, and seeing her with her family just makes me so happy! I screenshotted everything, obviously.

Joanne went to Melbourne for the comedy festival and also got to spend time with her father and siblings while she was there.

She shared a post about enjoying the Melbourne comedy festival and being able to connect with her birth father and half-brothers, all of whom live in the city. She reflected on the surprising nature of adoption and expressed gratitude for her family connections, ending with a plea to consider adoption instead of buying pets (‘Adopt, don’t shop’).

Una Healy, the singer from The Saturdays, called the moment ‘just wonderful.’ Many other viewers commented that the comedian and her half-brother, who was wearing a white T-shirt, looked remarkably like twins.

Fans have noticed a striking resemblance between the two performers, commenting that they look like twins and expressing their delight at the connection.

Joanne even commented on their uncanny resemblance as she replied: ‘I know! Mad’.  

Joanne was born in County Roscommon, Ireland, and was adopted as an infant by Pat and Frank, a couple from Dublin.

Pat worked as a nurse and Frank was a draftsman. Joanne also has a younger adopted brother named Conor. When Joanne was fifteen, her adopted father, Frank, passed away after a long illness and a heart attack.

Joanne’s father, Kevin, moved from Ireland to Australia, where he started a family and had four sons. In 2018, he traveled from Melbourne to Dublin to meet Joanne, his daughter, for the very first time – they met at a local pub. Joanne has chosen to keep the identity of her biological mother confidential.

The comedian said she always knew she was adopted. 

Joanne recently shared with the Daily Mail that, unlike many adopted people she’s met, she hasn’t struggled with her adoption. She admits she might be suppressing any difficult feelings, or perhaps she copes by performing and seeking approval through her work. She isn’t sure which it is. You can find the full story here.

She’s been on popular TV shows like Taskmaster, where she came in second place on Series 17, as well as The Big Fat Quiz of Everything and The Jonathan Ross Show.

Reports surfaced in February that she was being considered for the next season of Celebrity Traitors.

According to a source, Joanne’s popular podcast and large social media presence could attract a younger audience to the show – people who previously weren’t interested in traditional BBC programming.
