Jessie Buckley reveals the Shakespearean good luck charm she is carrying in her handbag as she competes for Best Actress Oscar

Jessie Buckley shared that she’s bringing a Shakespeare-related good luck charm in her bag as she hopes to win Best Actress at the Oscars this Sunday.

The 36-year-old actress, a frontrunner for Best Actress, has received widespread praise this awards season for her performance in Hamnet. She plays Agnes, a mother dealing with profound grief, in the film.

After impressing everyone with her appearance on the red carpet, she was then asked to share her favorite line from Shakespeare’s play, Hamnet.

She shared that her favorite sonnet, originally sent to her by a friend and carefully preserved in her handbag on a tissue by Chanel, is “When to the sessions of sweet silent thought, I summon up remembrance of things past.”

Shakespeare’s Sonnet 30 begins with a reflection on the past, delving into feelings of sadness, regret, and loss, but ultimately highlighting how love can heal and offer comfort.

This quote refers to the practice of quietly thinking and deliberately remembering past experiences.

Though the poetry sessions start calmly, they quickly become a space for the poet to grapple with sadness over lost friends and past mistakes, reflecting her role as a mother who is deeply mourning.

For the outing, Jessie put on a showstopping display in a custom Chanel red-and-pink satin gown.

The 98th Academy Awards will honor the top movies of 2025 at a glamorous ceremony held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

Conan O’Brien, age 62, will host the show again this year, marking his second year in a row after he originally took over from Jimmy Kimmel.

Ryan Coogler’s film, ‘Sinners’, has received an unprecedented 16 Academy Award nominations, making it the most nominated film ever in the history of the awards.

The scary movie is nominated for Best Picture, along with nine other films: Bugonia, F1, Frankenstein, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, One Battle After Another, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, and Train Dreams.

Michael B. Jordan, known for his role in Sinners, is up for Best Actor alongside a strong group of competitors: Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme), Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another), Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon), and Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent).

Sinners, a story set in 1930s Mississippi, centers around twin brothers – both portrayed by Jordan – who come home to find their hometown plagued by a terrifying supernatural force.

As a lifestyle expert who keeps a close eye on awards season, let me tell you, the Best Actor race is incredibly tight right now! Timothée Chalamet seemed like the frontrunner early on, sweeping the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards. But things definitely changed when Michael Jordan took home the prize at the Actor Awards – formerly known as the SAG Awards – and really shook things up. It’s a total toss-up at this point!

The event is happening shortly after Timothée Chalamet made remarks that many found offensive – he suggested people aren’t interested in ballet or opera, which caused a strong negative reaction from those in the performing arts.

Josh Safdie’s film, Marty Supreme, tells the story of Marty Reisman, a talented young ping-pong player in 1950s New York. Starring Timothée Chalamet, the movie follows his pursuit of a world championship and how it strains his relationships with those around him.

I’m really rooting for Jessie Buckley to win Best Actress for her incredible performance in Hamnet! She’s definitely the one to watch, but the competition is fierce. Rose Byrne is fantastic in If I Had Legs I would Kick You, and Kate Hudson’s work in Song Sung Blue has been getting a lot of buzz. Plus, Renate Reinsve in Sentimental Value and Emma Stone in Bugonia are both so talented – it’s going to be a tough race!

Directed by Chloe Zhao, who won Best Director in 2021, Hamnet offers a new look at William Shakespeare’s personal life. The film explores how the loss of his eleven-year-old son deeply affected him and inspired his famous play, Hamlet.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another earned 13 nominations.

The film received several nominations, including Best Director, Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio, and Best Supporting Actor nods for both Benicio del Toro and Sean Penn.

This darkly humorous action movie centers on a former revolutionary (Leonardo DiCaprio) who’s been living in hiding. He’s pulled back into the world when his old enemy, a dishonest military officer (Sean Penn), targets his daughter, forcing him to come out of hiding to save her.

Joining Penn and del Toro as contenders for Best Supporting Actor are Jacob Elordi for his role in Frankenstein, Delroy Lindo in Sinners, and Stellan Skarsgard from Sentimental Value.
