Jenny Slatten of ’90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way’ reveals she is living with ALS

I was so shocked and saddened to hear that Jenny Slatten from “90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way” has ALS. She and Sumit shared the news on social media and in an interview today, and they seemed really heartbroken about it. It’s just awful to hear, and I’m sending them both all my best.

Slatten shared on Instagram that after initial reports of a stroke, they were actually diagnosed with ALS. They explained that they had initially wanted to keep the diagnosis private, hoping to find a treatment or solution first, as it had been a very difficult and emotional time. However, after trying to cope privately for a while, they felt ready to share what was happening.

Eric Dane, the actor famous for playing Dr. Mark Sloan (‘McSteamy’) on ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ has passed away at the age of 53 after fighting ALS.

She explained that they’re willing to try anything that might treat or slow down the disease, including medical treatments, research studies, and changes to daily habits.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also called Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a devastating illness that progressively attacks the nerves controlling muscles. This leads to a loss of movement and eventually the ability to breathe, according to the Mayo Clinic. Currently, there is no cure. Symptoms often start with muscle twitches, weakness in the arms or legs, difficulty swallowing, or slurred speech.

Over a decade ago, Slatten’s father passed away from ALS, a disease she hadn’t considered until a social media user suggested it might be related to her own health issues. It started in December 2024 when she began choking easily, even on water. This was followed by migraines and difficulty swallowing pills, prompting her to see medical specialists.

Despite recently receiving a diagnosis, 68-year-old Slatten and her 38-year-old partner, Singh, intend to remain in India. “I want to be treated normally,” Slatten explained. “We just want to continue living our lives as we always have for as long as we can.”

I was so saddened to hear that Russell Andrews, a truly talented actor, has been diagnosed with ALS. It’s heartbreaking, but what really touched me was hearing from his fiancée, Erica Tazel. Despite everything, she says she still wants to marry him, and that just shows the incredible love and commitment they share. It’s a difficult time, but their strength is inspiring.

On a recent episode of the show, Decider reported that John and Charlotte were celebrating the opening of their cafe – which has since closed – while living with John’s parents, brother, sister-in-law, and their child. Charlotte admitted she wasn’t thrilled with the living arrangement, but noted her relationship with her mother-in-law, Sadna Singh, had improved. Sadna initially disapproved of her son dating someone thirty years older, but she’s since accepted the relationship. Charlotte said they still have some disagreements, but they’re doing okay.

“90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way” documents the journeys of Americans who move to foreign countries to pursue relationships. A specific visa requires them to marry their partners within 90 days of arriving, or they must return home. In the case of Deavan Clegg and Jihoon Lee, Jihoon initially misled Deavan by using a fake profile on Facebook, connecting with her in 2013 before revealing his true identity. They secretly married in 2019, without informing his family, and the ceremony was featured in the Season 3 finale of the show.

The show’s Season 7 finale aired in February.

Christina Marie Cuevas shared a heartfelt message online, telling her mom, “I love you and I’m so proud of you.” She explained it had been difficult staying silent, and while she’s incredibly sad, she’s determined to remain hopeful. She pledged her support, saying, “I’ll be with you every step of the way.” She also expressed her love for Sumit.

MLB.com researcher Sarah Langs thanked Sheehan on his birthday for being a strong advocate and helping to raise awareness about the disease.

Cuevas explained in a video that she traveled to India two months ago to see her mom and Singh after receiving an ALS diagnosis. She felt a strong need to be with her mother. She and her wife, Jen, plan to return to India again soon.

“We’ll keep you guys posted.”

Eric Dane, known for his roles in shows like “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Euphoria,” passed away in February after revealing his diagnosis with ALS last August. A. Russell Andrews, who appeared in “Insecure” and “Better Call Saul,” publicly shared that he also has ALS last Saturday.

The Mayo Clinic notes that while every person’s experience is unique, most patients live three to five years after their first symptoms appear. However, some people live much longer, even up to ten years or more.
