Jennifer Harmon, a stage and television actress who appeared on “One Life to Live,” has passed away at the age of 82.
In 1976, Harmon began playing Cathy Craig on “One Life to Live,” becoming the show’s original long-running villain. She was the fifth and last actress to portray the character, and in 1978, she received a Daytime Emmy nomination for her performance.
The soap star died Saturday, her family announced. No cause of death was provided.
Harmon, a New York native, started her acting career on the stage. She first appeared on Broadway in 1965 in a new production of the classic play “You Can’t Take It With You” at the Lyceum Theatre. Before 1970, she performed in several other Broadway shows as part of the APA-Phoenix Repertory Company, including updated versions of Henrik Ibsen’s “The Wild Duck” and Anton Chekhov’s “The Cherry Orchard.”
Television
Patrick Muldoon, a familiar face from shows like ‘Days of Our Lives,’ ‘Melrose Place,’ and the movie ‘Starship Troopers,’ has passed away at the age of 57. He was both an actor and a producer.
Harmon’s career took off in 1974 when she landed a leading role in the TV series “How to Survive a Marriage.” She played Chris Kirby throughout the show’s two seasons, portraying a character dealing with difficult issues like divorce, child custody, and alcoholism.
Harmon then stepped into the role of Cathy Craig on “One Life to Live,” taking over from Dorrie Kavanaugh. Several actresses had played the part before her, including Catherine Burns, Amy Levitt, and Jane Alice Brandon. She left the show in 1978, but later returned in the early 1990s as a lawyer working against Cathy’s opponent, Viki Lord.
Born on December 3, 1943, in Pasadena, actress Pam Harmon grew up in New Orleans. She went to college at both the University of Mississippi and the University of Michigan before moving to New York to pursue her acting career, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter.
As a total theater nerd, I was really saddened to hear about her passing. She had an incredible 50-year career on Broadway, appearing in 21 shows – classics like “Blithe Spirit” and “The Glass Menagerie,” to more modern pieces like “Other Desert Cities.” I mean, she even shared the stage with legends like Stockard Channing, Judi Dench, Jessica Lange, and Blythe Danner – either as an understudy or performing right alongside them! Talk about a resume!
Harmon also appeared on several popular TV shows, including “Dallas,” “St. Elsewhere,” “Guiding Light,” “Another World,” “Law & Order,” and “The Good Wife.”
