Jennifer Garner reveals she BIT ear off stuntman ‘like Mike Tyson’ during brutal fight scene

Move over Mike Tyson – there’s another ear-biting fighter in town.

Jennifer Garner accidentally bit off a piece of an actor’s ear while filming a fight scene for the 2007 movie, The Kingdom, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

As a huge fan of Pete Berg’s work, I was shocked to hear about what happened on set. Apparently, he actually told stuntman Sala Baker to really go after Jennifer Garner – to the point of ‘trying to kill’ her, as crazy as that sounds! The fight scene got so intense it reminded people of that infamous Tyson-Holyfield boxing match where Tyson actually bit off part of Holyfield’s ear. It was a wild story, and honestly, a bit disturbing to hear about.

She recalled a past fight with Sal, saying it took place in The Kingdom. According to her, the director, Pete Berg, actually instructed Sal to attempt to harm her during the match. She shared this story at an Apple TV press event on Tuesday.

There wasn’t much planned movement, and he just told me to do whatever it took to get through it. He managed, and so did I, and I actually ended up climbing onto his back to stay safe.

‘I bit his ear, and we have a picture of him missing a chunk of ear, because we were not kidding.’

Garner and Baker recently worked together again on the second season of The Last Thing He Told Me, playing opposing roles.

Their fight was so intense it worried some of the crew, but Garner explained she had a personal reason for wanting to confront him.

During one of our first days of filming, the crew expressed concern about a risky move I was planning. They asked me to be careful with the actress, but I insisted on going all out – I wasn’t holding back, and neither was the actor involved. I told everyone to give us space because I had something to prove. Our stunt coordinator, Sal, was with us for the whole season, so you’re about to see some intense action!

Glenn Powell’s co-star, Nicolaj Coster-Waldau, was shocked when he heard the story, asking, ‘Wait, you’re telling me you actually bit off a piece of his ear?’

‘Like Mike Tyson,’ she replied.

Twenty-seven years ago, Mike Tyson’s bite during his fight with Evander Holyfield instantly became one of the most shocking moments in boxing history.

Oh man, the first fight! 1996… Holyfield beat Tyson, an 11th-round TKO, it was incredible! But I just had to see them go at it again, so I was glued to the screen when they faced off once more, right there at the MGM Grand the next year. I couldn’t believe it was happening again!

The second fight between the two boxers became known as “The Bite Fight” because Mike Tyson famously bit Evander Holyfield’s ear, leading to Tyson’s disqualification in the third round.

As the star of the action series Alias, Garner is no stranger to a fight scene.

During an interview with Vanity Fair, she compared the fight choreography to that of a dance.

‘It felt like dance to me,’ she told the publication in 2016.

Garner stars in and executive produces the Apple TV thriller series, The Last Thing He Told Me.

She plays Hannah Hall opposite Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.

The first season of the Apple TV+ show launched in April 2023 and quickly became the platform’s most popular limited series, even though it received a relatively low 41% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The show is based on the novel of the same name by Laura Dave.

Season one centers around Jennifer, who develops a surprising connection with her teenage stepdaughter as she tries to uncover the mystery behind her husband’s disappearance, according to IMDB.

The second season will continue the story from Laura Dave’s novel, The Last Thing He Told Me, and will begin streaming on Apple TV on February 20th.
