After a lengthy review of the case, Jennifer Aniston’s alleged stalker has been released from jail, according to a Daily Mail report.
On May 5, 2025, 49-year-old Jimmy Carwyle of Mississippi was arrested for driving his Chrysler PT Cruiser into the gates of actress Jennifer Aniston’s $21 million Bel Air home. The incident, which caused over $50,000 in damage, occurred while Aniston, 56, was at home and left her feeling fearful.
Carwyle faced charges of felony vandalism and stalking, but he entered a plea of not guilty. However, a judge in Los Angeles determined he wasn’t mentally able to participate in the trial at that time.
Honestly, when I first saw the issues with the work, I questioned the assessment and wanted another professional to take a look. Unfortunately, getting everyone together to discuss it proved really difficult – the meeting kept getting pushed back again and again. It was a frustrating process, to say the least!
Okay, so I just found out – and I’m honestly relieved – that they’re not just throwing Carwyle in jail! Apparently, after more assessments, he’s getting a treatment plan! It’s part of this program that’s meant to help him get better and actually live outside of prison. I’m just so glad they’re trying to help him get the support he needs instead of just punishing him. It’s a huge relief, honestly!
Court records obtained by the Daily Mail show a judge has instructed him to consistently take all prescribed medications. The judge also stipulated that he must remain in the program unless given permission to leave, abstain from all illegal drugs, alcohol, and marijuana, and avoid possessing any dangerous weapons.
The judge instructed that the defendant be entered into the least restrictive housing program offered by the Office of Diversion and Reentry, and also required him to participate in a program designed to help people overcome stimulant addiction using rewards and incentives.
Carwyle is also required to wear a GPS ankle monitor and must stay at least one mile away from the victim, her home, and anyone representing her. He is not allowed to have any contact with her or her representatives.
He was released from jail on November 17th and moved to his current location, where he is still staying.
An update on Carwyle’s mental competency, as required by the court, was submitted on December 18th in a report labeled ‘1368 PC Progress Report.’ A second update was filed on January 29th.
It’s unlikely Aniston was pleased with this outcome, as her lawyers had previously argued he should be committed to a secure psychiatric facility.
According to a court filing from September 5th obtained by the Daily Mail, Jennifer Aniston’s attorneys stated she is constantly worried that David Carwyle will resume stalking her as soon as he can unless he receives proper mental health care.
Carwyle was considered to be experiencing psychosis, even while taking medication, and had intensely religious beliefs and delusions. Her lawyers argued that these, along with her belief that she was romantically involved with someone famous, could have resulted in a much more dangerous situation when she drove into the home, but Aniston’s security system helped prevent it.
Erotomania is a rare condition where someone has a strong, false belief that another person – often a celebrity or someone they see as important – is in love with them.
I’ve been following this case so closely, and it’s terrifying! Jennifer’s team made a really strong point – this guy, Carwyle, he does have a past, even if they call it ‘limited.’ But it’s not just that – it’s that he’s clearly not doing well mentally, and that combination is what’s so dangerous. They brought up that he actually admitted to hitting someone before, to domestic violence, and… ugh, he even said he liked doing meth! It just proves he’s unstable and a real threat. I’m so worried for her!
According to court documents, the lawyer for the opposing party claims Carwyle has a long history of abusing alcohol, marijuana, and methamphetamine, and doesn’t seem motivated to stop. He reportedly admitted to being “a blackout drunk for five years.” Carwyle, however, has stated that he does not suffer from a mental illness.
Jennifer Aniston’s legal team argued that allowing the defendant to return to the community would be unsafe and would also hinder, rather than help, their mental health treatment.
Court documents filed in August 2025 show that Carwyle’s lawyers stated he had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, along with alcohol and cannabis use disorders.
A second doctor reportedly diagnosed him with a psychosis-related condition in May, though the exact type wasn’t specified. Both doctors concurred that medication to treat psychosis was a suitable and potentially helpful course of action.
From 2023, Carwyle reportedly fixated on Jennifer Aniston for two years, repeatedly calling her his ‘wife’ in emails and voice messages.
Court records obtained by the Daily Mail show he messaged the celebrity on Instagram on July 30, 2023, claiming to be her husband and wanting to talk about names for their three children.
In an email sent to Jennifer Aniston’s haircare company, LolaVie, on September 1st, he wrote that he wanted them to prioritize their relationship, stating he was serious about being a husband to her. He claimed he was the only one who could truly love her as she deserved, and even announced they would have three children – Immanuel, Isabella, and Sarah.
On October 16, 2024, Julia Carwyle, his wife, attempted to reach out for assistance, understanding her husband’s desire to connect with Aniston.
On November 19th, about a month prior, Carwyle informed security at Jennifer Aniston’s home that he had been emailing with her and wished to meet. He also stated his name was Christ.
The next day, he left a voicemail calling Jennifer Aniston his ‘wife’ and repeatedly referring to himself as ‘Christ’. He also expressed annoyance that he was unable to enter what he called ‘our house’.
On November 21st, Carwyle left another voicemail for Aniston, declaring his love and saying he’d happily pay $500,000 to meet her. Two days later, he contacted her again, requesting a meeting to discuss both personal matters – referring to them as ‘husband and wife issues’ – and business. He asked her to propose a time and location.
I just found out more, and it’s even worse than I thought! Apparently, my husband was completely obsessed with her – he made several trips, just hoping to meet her! The last time I saw him was back in September 2024, right before he suddenly left everything behind and moved to California. I had no idea… absolutely no idea.
Julia has been separated from her husband, Carwyle, a car mechanic, for several years. They married in 2019. Carwyle also has a 23-year-old daughter, Kelly, from a previous relationship.
Honestly, when I heard her say that – that we’d been apart for so long and she was basically saying ‘go ahead and try with someone else, but it’ll never work’ – it just… shattered me. I really couldn’t wrap my head around it. Like, how could she even say that? It was unbelievable.
After Carwyle’s arrest was made public, many friends and people who knew him expressed their concern on Facebook. One commenter, Marty Merritt, described Carwyle – who began attending their church in 2019 – as a kind and helpful person.
People say he changed a lot during the pandemic, reportedly sending erratic messages and insisting God had instructed him to marry Jennifer Aniston. According to Merritt, this behavior stemmed from the man’s increasing drug use with another individual, leading to a decline in his mental stability.
Since the incident, Aniston has added more security around her house and improved her overall security systems to better protect her privacy and safety.
The Emmy-winning actress, whose partner Jim Curtis recently put their $1.5 million New York City apartment on the market, is currently renovating a $7.5 million home she bought earlier in the year. This new property is located right next to her existing mansion.
Plans seen by the Daily Mail indicate that Jennifer Aniston intends to transform her new property into either a guesthouse or an extension of her nearby 8,500-square-foot home, effectively creating a large, combined estate.
On January 29th, an update was filed regarding the Carwyle case. The court has scheduled a follow-up hearing for April 29th, and Carwyle is required to attend remotely via video conference.
He must commit to the program by October 15, 2027. His court case is on hold while he completes treatment.
The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Aniston and Carwyle for comment.
