Jenna Ortega’s remake of “excellent” ’90s thriller gets exciting update

Good news for the upcoming remake of Single White Female: Sarah DeLappe, who wrote the screenplay for Bodies Bodies Bodies, will be writing the script. Jenna Ortega is set to star in the thriller.

The 1992 movie was inspired by John Lutz’s novel, SWF Seeks Same, and featured Bridget Fonda and Jennifer Jason Leigh. It centers around Allison, who is newly single, and whose life gets complicated when her overly attached roommate, Hedra, starts behaving oddly.

Last year, Sony and 3000 Pictures announced a new version of a film called Single Female, starring Jenna Ortega and Taylor Russell. The two actresses will also be producers on the project, along with Stacey Sher and Marisa Paiva.

Even though we don’t know when it will be released, Single Female has high expectations to meet. The previous film in the series was a big hit, opening at number two in the US and helping to make stars out of Jane Fonda and Catherine Leigh.

The psychological thriller has a mixed reception from critics, earning a 53% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 49 reviews. However, viewers on IMDb generally praise it, calling it both “excellent” and a “great classic thrill ride.”

I was totally hooked by this movie! It builds tension so well, and it really gets inside your head – it’s a proper psychological thriller. Plus, Fonda and Leigh are fantastic in it. Honestly, I think it’s a really smart film that doesn’t get nearly enough credit. It’s a surprisingly clever thriller that I highly recommend!

One viewer described Single White Female as a gripping psychological thriller that masterfully creates a sense of tension and unease. The movie delves into issues of identity, unhealthy obsession, and damaging relationships, successfully holding the audience’s attention.

The fact that DeLappe is involved in the remake is a good sign. Her 2022 comedy-horror film, Bodies Bodies Bodies, starring Amandla Stenberg and Lee Pace, was highly praised, earning an 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 238 reviews.

The film is full of energy and vibrancy, featuring a sharp, witty script, a tense and dramatic mood, and strong performances from the actors, according to reviews. The Times praised its lively quality, while Metro described it as a cleverly made and exciting horror film with a thought-provoking and energetic edge.
