Bunnie Xo is publicly responding to claims that she and her husband, Jelly Roll, have an open marriage. She’s also acknowledged that she was still working as an escort when they first started dating.
Let me tell you, I’ve had a sneak peek at what’s coming in [her] memoir, and it’s powerful. She really opens up about her journey – from a difficult adolescence to becoming part of one of country music’s most talked-about couples. It’s a raw and honest look at how she navigated it all, and I think readers will really connect with her story. It’s called ‘Stripped Down: Unfiltered and Unapologetic’, and it’s definitely one to watch!
Before becoming known as Bunnie Xo, Alisa DeFord faced a difficult life. As a 14-year-old in Las Vegas, she experienced homelessness, and later struggled with drug addiction and domestic abuse. Between 1999 and 2006, she was arrested seven times.
She used to work as an escort, but she’s since changed her life. She’s now revealed that she was still seeing clients when she and Jelly Roll first started dating.
She explained to Extra on Monday that while he was touring, she’d handle booking his dates. They always appreciated each other’s work ethic and have never tried to make the other person change.
As for the swirling ‘open marriage’ rumors? Bunnie insists their relationship is anything but.
Okay, so she finally addressed it, and honestly, it’s even more heartbreaking than I imagined! She described their marriage as ‘free, but not open’ – which, like, what does that even mean?! But then she just dropped this bomb that it’s ‘completely closed now.’ Completely! As if anyone needed to ask, but she felt the need to clarify! It just…it confirms everything. I’m devastated for them, but I needed to know, and she finally told us. It’s just…over.
Bunnie opened up about the challenges she and Jelly Roll faced early in their relationship.
Growing up, I saw a lot of infidelity – in the clergy, in politics, and even within my own family with my father’s struggles to maintain a stable relationship. That background definitely shaped my perspective when I started my own relationship.
‘My husband was raised in a home where… we were not taught how to love properly,’ she said.
She continued, explaining that they entered the relationship without much understanding of each other. They both acted impulsively and were afraid of getting hurt, so they tried to protect themselves by anticipating potential issues.
I told my team, pretty simply, that I wanted to be kept in the loop if they connected with anyone while traveling. I really just asked them to let me know right away, instead of me hearing about it secondhand later on.
We weren’t into swinging or anything like that – no secret signals or anything. It was more that we had an open relationship. We just agreed that we didn’t believe in being exclusive at the time, and we wanted to be honest with each other about our needs and desires.
After being happily married for almost ten years and raising Jelly’s children, Noah and Bailee, Bailee and Jelly are trying to have a baby through IVF.
She shared with the media that they are expecting a baby. Both she and her partner are thrilled and really want to be parents.
Bunnie recently opened up about difficulties she and her partner experienced with intimacy before the musician, age 41, lost 300 pounds.
She told Us Weekly that while they always maintained a physical relationship, it wasn’t always easy, particularly due to a significant size difference between them.
Now that he’s lost weight, she says he’s regained a playful, energetic spirit, and she finally feels like she’s seeing the man she always knew he could be.
Honestly, even when he was at his heaviest – like, 500 pounds! – he still moved with such grace. I always thought to myself, ‘There’s a real athlete hidden under all that!’ It was amazing to watch, seriously.
Bunnie, also known as Alisa DeFord, explained that now that a burden has been lifted, she’s finally seeing the person she always knew he was, and it’s making him truly happy. She added that his happiness is very important to her.
Jelly Roll shared that he lost weight, dropping to 265 pounds, without using any weight loss drugs like those popular in Hollywood, such as GLP-1 medications.
In December 2024, the singer decided he wanted to be featured on the cover of Men’s Health magazine and made it a personal goal.
He announced to listeners of his wife’s podcast, Dumb Blonde, that he’s aiming to be featured on the cover of Men’s Health magazine by March 2026. He shared this as his new personal goal.
He said he’s hoping for a major personal change and expressed his happiness about sharing the process with everyone.
He achieved this impressive goal and his journey was even featured in a short film called A Year for a Life, which came out in January.
He confessed he was essentially destroying his health through overeating, describing his battle with food addiction.
Since 2020, he has lost 275lbs, saying he now lives in ‘a dramatically different world.’
A blood panel early in his journey revealed low testosterone, which had affected his sex life.
He admitted he needed help with erectile dysfunction, saying, ‘I couldn’t achieve an erection without medication.’ He added that even when married to a very attractive woman, he still had problems.
He also revealed, ‘I’ll be on testosterone replacement therapy probably for the rest of my life.’
The Thorns singer said married life is far more playful now that he’s healthier.
He described a complete change in their dynamic, explaining that he was now the one pursuing Bunnie around the house.
I feel young and energetic again! I’m always surprising people, popping up unexpectedly. Like when someone opens a cabinet and I playfully greet them with a ‘Hi!’
