Jamie Lomas shared the sad news that his mother passed away on Mother’s Day after a long 12-year struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.
The 50-year-old actor shared a heartfelt tribute to his mother, Helen Webb, on Instagram Sunday, calling her ‘beautiful’.
Jamie explained that he felt he’d lost his mother twice – once to Alzheimer’s, and again as the disease progressed. Alzheimer’s is a devastating illness that gradually affects the brain and is the leading cause of dementia.
He wrote: ‘Sadly we lost our beautiful mum today on Mother’s Day.
After a long 12-year struggle with Alzheimer’s disease, she passed away. Those who have cared for someone with Alzheimer’s understand that it’s like losing them twice – once gradually as the disease progresses, and again with their passing.
It’s been incredibly hard watching my mum, who was always such a strong person, gradually become a shadow of her former self over the years.
It still doesn’t feel real, Mum. You’re finally at peace, and honestly, my heart is just shattered. I loved you so much, and I’m going to miss you terribly. You were my first everything – the very first person who loved me, even before anyone else even knew I was here. It’s like a piece of me is gone.
‘Goodnight mum R I P.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve seen firsthand how impactful compassionate care can be, and I just wanted to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who looked after my loved one. Each of you went above and beyond, and your kindness truly made all the difference. You’re all incredible people, and I’m so thankful for everything you did.
Brooke Vincent wrote: ‘Sending you all of my love Jamie’.
Anthony Quinn, also an actor on Hollyoaks, expressed his sadness, saying he was heartbroken for everyone. He shared his love and remembered Helen as a fantastic person, always a joy to be around and share a laugh with. He offered his support to her brother and wished her peace.
Nikki Sanderson sent her love and support, offering help to you and your family if needed. She signed off with lots of hugs and kisses.
Last March, Jamie returned to Hollyoaks to play villain Warren Fox.
The actor was a member of the show’s cast from 2006 to 2011, returned five years later, and then left in 2024.
He returned to making soap a year after his daughter, Bella Neveah, was born to him and his partner, Jess Bell.
