Jake Quickenden’s pregnant wife Sophie defends her gender disappointment after learning she’s expecting another baby boy as fans slam her reaction and insist ‘as long as it’s healthy, the sex shouldn’t matter’
As a seasoned observer of celebrity lives, I must say that Sophie and Jake’s journey to parenthood again is truly inspiring. Having been through the rollercoaster of pregnancy myself, I can empathize with their joy and the challenges they are undoubtedly facing. The sickness, exhaustion, and emotional lows are all too familiar, but the anticipation of welcoming a new life into the world makes it all worthwhile.
As a die-hard admirer of Jake Quickenden, I felt compelled to share my thoughts on the recent uproar surrounding his wife Sophie. Some fans have criticized Sophie for her response to the gender reveal of their unborn child. However, in my humble opinion, it’s important to understand and support Sophie during this unique and emotional phase of her life. After all, it’s her journey too, and she has every right to react according to her feelings, just as I would if I were in her shoes.
In March of 2022, the newlyweds announced their pregnancy and recently shared on Instagram a video of themselves discovering the gender of their baby by slicing into a colored cake – either blue or pink.
I had the pleasure of spotting the 35-year-old X Factor star, along with his wife, our precious three-year-old son Leo, and Freddie – Sophie’s son from a past relationship – by our side.
Upon filling champagne flutes with frosting, they unveiled a blue-tinted confectionery masterpiece within, eliciting an excited yelp from Jake: “Look! It’s a boy, it’s a boy!”
However, Sophie couldn’t conceal her displeasure and sighed deeply, saying, “Oh dear, I knew it. Where have all the ladies vanished to?”
Despite numerous fans being amused by her apparent dismay upon realizing she was about to have more boys than girls, some found her reaction disappointing, expressing that she should instead be joyful over the prospect of a healthy newborn child.
Jake hit back at several comments, with one person writing: ‘“For god sake” jeez count yourself lucky you can have kids. I’ve got 3 boys and wouldn’t swap them EVER!’ and him responding: ‘I dont think soph would want to swap them either!’
As he expressed his frustration towards a follower who questioned, “Why share this? I’ve never seen someone seem so miserable…”, he retorted playfully: “I guess you’re from Tellytubbyland if you didn’t notice her grinning throughout the entire video.”
Later on, he appended another remark to the post, writing: ‘We’re absolutely thrilled because as far as we’re concerned, the baby’s health and happiness is everything. Soph would have loved a daughter to support her, but we’ve grown accustomed to sons and we couldn’t be more content.’
I’m eagerly looking forward to finding out if he resembles Leo. I can hardly wait to witness the interaction between Fred, Leo, and him… So now, let’s decide on a name for him?
On Saturday, Sophie defended herself on Instagram, stating that feelings of disappointment related to a child’s gender are legitimate and deserve more open discussion.
She insisted that she was ‘incredibly grateful’ to be having another child, but admitted that she had ‘always dreamed of having a daughter’.
She admitted that she felt sad about not having a woman to accompany her at her wedding and on girls’ getaways, and emphasized that it was perfectly alright to feel this way.
Let’s have a conversation about the topic that often goes unspoken – the complexities surrounding gender identity.
As someone who has struggled to conceive, I deeply appreciate the outpouring of support and positivity surrounding our gender reveal video, despite some negative comments. I am profoundly grateful and blessed to be pregnant at all, whether it’s a girl or a boy. This pregnancy is a testament to perseverance, patience, and hope – qualities that have been essential in my journey as a couple. So, please, let us celebrate this momentous occasion together, regardless of the gender, and send love and good wishes our way.
What I truly hope for is a healthy child, but should anyone ask, I’d confess my preference was for a girl; however, I’m perfectly content with whatever comes along.
I’m blessed with two fantastic sons, but I’ve always yearned for a daughter too. Since this is going to be my final child, I felt a bit melancholic knowing that one of my cherished dreams might not come to pass.
Instead of merely wanting a daughter for the sake of dressing her up or sharing clothes and going shopping together, my desire was more profound. I wished to attend significant milestones in her life such as her prom, her wedding, the birth of her children, and even take trips together just for women.
As someone who shares similar sentiments, let me assure you that your feelings are entirely valid. Being pregnant doesn’t define your worth as a person, nor does it make you less appreciated. I eagerly look forward to the journey of nurturing another boy, and I believe this is my destiny.
Multiple supporters responded positively, with one commenting: “It’s unnecessary for you to justify yourself… experiencing disappointment about a baby’s gender is indeed a genuine emotion.”
Meanwhile, many other followers expressed their disapproval towards the post, arguing that her son might feel upset by her response, and suggesting instead that she concentrate on ensuring her child’s good health.
As a passionate admirer, I couldn’t help but resonate with her aspirations, even though some skeptics argued about the relevance of gender in her dreams. However, what struck a chord with many like-minded individuals, including myself, struggling to conceive, was her heartrending post. It wasn’t the sex specificity of the dreams that touched us, but rather the raw, universal human longing that echoed within them.
It saddens me deeply. I fail to comprehend why someone could be disheartened about their baby’s gender? After all, there are many women who long for the chance to have a child – consider that perspective; it’s hard for me to fathom how one child can fall short of another.
‘I can’t understand the significance of knowing the sex of a child beforehand. It seems to me that it shouldn’t matter that much; I’m just puzzled as to why it’s important. By no means am I trying to trivialise or belittle the issue. If you want a pet with a specific gender, consider getting a dog instead of having a child.’
As a parent myself, I try to avoid commenting or judging others on their parenting choices because everyone has their own unique journey with their children. I want my little one to feel loved and accepted just as they are, without any pressure to conform to expectations. However, it can be tough not to feel disappointed when I see posts that don’t align with my personal beliefs or values. But, everyone has the right to share their experiences and thoughts on social media, even if they don’t always resonate with me. The internet can be a strange and overwhelming place at times, but it’s important to remember that everyone has their own story to tell. 😊
“It’s wonderful that the baby is healthy; I can hardly fathom the idea of growing up with videos of my parents expressing disappointment over my gender, which would have been shared publicly for all to see.”
As a parent who has raised both sons and daughters, I can attest that it is essential to avoid gender stereotypes when engaging with our children. Over the years, I have learned that my children are not there to fulfill any preconceived roles or expectations based on their sex.
For those facing challenges with conception, it’s truly devastating; After all, a child, regardless of gender, is a blessing. What truly counts is their good health, not their sex.
Previously, Sophie refuted rumors about having a baby girl when she displayed her growing belly in a pink bathing suit, leading fans to speculate that she might be revealing the baby’s gender.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, let me clarify: Fellow readers, just because I’m sporting a swimsuit doesn’t mean it signifies my gender. At that stage, we weren’t aware of the baby’s sex. Interestingly, I experienced nausea with both pregnancies, but it was significantly more intense this time around.
Next to the photo of her in a swimsuit, she wrote: ‘Thanks for all your wonderful messages and congratulations. I’m gradually making my way through them all.’
‘This pregnancy has definitely felt tougher than my other two. I’ve been really sick for the past 9 weeks and it’s still going. And the tiredness, WOW..
I’ve discovered that my sleep habits have been off lately, and it turns out that the recommended eight hours isn’t quite enough for me. The past few days have left me feeling drained and overwhelmed, and I’ve found myself unable to fully engage as a mother, wife, and friend. It’s been tough, and at times I’ve felt down about my inability to be present all the time. I’m hopeful that with some rest and self-care, I’ll start to feel more like myself again and approach life with a renewed sense of positivity.
“I’ll make an effort to communicate more often and share more insights with all of you, since I understand that I’ve been rather reserved lately.”
Previously, the couple shared that they had been expecting a child following a prolonged period of attempting to conceive. They expressed their emotions on Instagram by sharing a heartfelt collection of moments showing their family discovering the joyous news.
Moved deeply by the news, he gently brushed away tears from his eyes as he learned that pregnant Sophie had shown their astonished boys an ultrasound image.
My former campmate Caleb posted: ‘WE HAVE EXCITING UPDATE… our family is expanding to five. After much anticipation, we’re ready to share that we’ll soon be welcoming a new addition to our world.’
‘We are super excited. Can’t wait to live off 2 hours sleep again. Have a lovely Sunday’.
Supporters and celebrated companions flocked to the comment area to express their well-wishes, with Vicky Pattison remarking: ‘This is fantastic news, my heartfelt congratulations to all of you.’
Michelle Visage expressed: ‘Congratulations, you all look stunning!’ And Coleen Nolan exclaimed: ‘Oh my goodness, congratulations… I’m overjoyed for you!’
Ulrika Jonsson typed: ‘Wow!! I’m so happy for you all!!!’ while H from Steps said: ‘Congratulations!’.
