Jack Nicholson’s daughter shares rare photo of acting legend on his 89th birthday, see him now

To celebrate his 89th birthday on Thursday, Jack Nicholson’s daughter, Lorraine, shared an unusual photo of the famously private actor with his fans.

On Wednesday, April 22nd, the 36-year-old shared a photo on Instagram of Jack Nicholson celebrating with his family and the legendary singer Joni Mitchell, 82.

She took a photo of her father, capturing his signature smile as he clapped along with Mitchell and the rest of the people in the room.

Lorraine captioned the heartfelt snap, ’89!!’ 

She shared a well-known older photo of Jack Nicholson from the 1970s, showing him in a red Coca-Cola shirt and smoking a cigar.

Jack Nicholson and his former wife, Rebecca Broussard, 63, share two children: Lorraine, who is also an actress, and their 34-year-old son, Ray.

He has three children: Jennifer, 62, from his marriage to Sandra Knight; Caleb James Goddard, 55, with his late co-star Susan Anspach; and Honey Hollman, his daughter with Danish model Winnie Hollman.

Jack Nicholson hasn’t had a relationship with his youngest child, 32-year-old Tessa Gourin, whose mother is actress Jennine Gourin.

Since Jack Nicholson stepped away from acting more than ten years ago, his daughter Lorraine is the only child who has shared glimpses of his personal life with fans online.

He appears to have stopped acting, with his final movie appearance being in the 2010 romantic comedy, How Do You Know.

In December 2025, Lorraine shared a photo of her father—the first in almost a year—showing him with her and their son, Ray, seemingly at a restaurant.

According to a source who spoke with the Daily Mail, Nicholson is reportedly doing well and is enjoying a quieter life with his family, away from the public eye.

The insider added, ‘He loves being around his children and is very close to them.’

Prior to the Instagram post from Lorraine, the actor from Chinatown hadn’t been seen publicly since the SNL 50th anniversary party in February 2025, where he was spotted in the audience – a rare sighting.

Prior to this, Jack Nicholson was seen using a cane while out in Beverly Hills in 2024. This was three years after his last public appearance at an LA Lakers game in October 2021.

In July 2025, Danny DeVito, a longtime friend of Jack Nicholson, shared a positive update on the actor, letting fans know Nicholson is doing well despite keeping to himself.

Danny DeVito shared the news while talking to PEOPLE magazine, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the classic film One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, which starred both him and Jack Nicholson.

He said he’d seen Jack a few weeks prior, noting it was around Jack’s birthday last month and that he was doing well.

DeVito and Nicholson remained close friends after filming One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, acting in several movies together. DeVito often spoke about being struck by Nicholson’s down-to-earth personality when they first met, despite Nicholson already being a rising star in Hollywood.

Jack Nicholson has faced criticism for not publicly acknowledging his daughter, Tessa, who was born from a short relationship with a waitress named Jeanine Gourin.

In an interview with the Daily Beast, Tessa explained that she was advised as a child to keep her father’s identity a secret. She described him as a complex individual and referred to her birth as an unintended consequence of his life.

Jack Nicholson’s early life was unusual. His mother, June Frances Nicholson, was just 18 when he was born. Instead of raising him herself, her parents stepped in and raised Jack as their own, leading everyone to believe June was actually his sister.

Jack lived for almost forty years thinking his mother was his sister. In 1974, Time magazine revealed the truth about their relationship to him.

During an interview for Patrick McGilligan’s biography, Jack’s Life, the star of The Shining described the story as the most disturbing thing he’d ever encountered.

He described the discovery as significant, but emphasized it wasn’t deeply upsetting.

When Rolling Stone asked the actor about the surprising news, he said he was amazed by how well everyone managed to keep it under wraps. He also added that the reveal had been very positive for his career.

June left Jack, who was raised in Neptune City, New Jersey, when he was four years old to follow her dream of becoming a showgirl.

At 17, he moved to California to live with his mother and began working as a secretary for animators William Hanna and Joseph Barbera at the MGM cartoon studio.

He was also pursuing acting at the time, and in 1958, he got his first role in the teen drama, The Cry Baby Killer.
