Jack Black recently posted a touching message about his wife, Tanya Haden, to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary.
The 56-year-old actor shared a series of photos on Instagram Sunday, showcasing memories with his wife and their sons, Samuel, 19, and Thomas, 17, collected over the years.
One picture showed them making goofy faces at each other, and another captured them sharing a laugh while Tanya, 54, sat on Jack’s lap.
Jack shared some throwback photos, including pictures of his and Tanya’s sons when they were young, and a photo of Tanya relaxing by a pool on a swing in a tropical paradise.
Alongside the post, he wrote: ’20 years! Happy anniversary my love. @tanyahaden’.
Jack and Tanya met in high school in Santa Monica, California. Tanya is both an artist and a musician.
Jack shared on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast that he’s always been impressed by Tanya and her sisters.
I remember when we first started noticing each other. We were both seeing other people at the time, so it was just casual conversation, nothing more. But then came a day when both of us were single, and everything felt different.
I was always a little hesitant and didn’t want to make the first move – she was the one who reached out, and that’s what matters.
Jack shared that he and Tanya were both at a surprise birthday party for a friend they had in common. While there, Tanya asked Jack if he’d like to have dinner with her and gave him her phone number.
He described a moment of overwhelming joy, saying it felt like a dream come true. “It was exactly what I’d always hoped for,” he explained.
The couple married in 2006, barely a year after they started dating.
Jack said things quickly became serious between them, and their relationship developed very rapidly. He felt like they were trying to catch up for time they hadn’t spent together.
Jack and Tanya initially weren’t planning to get married, even though they both wanted to have children. However, Jack’s brother convinced him to reconsider.
Jack explained they didn’t see the point of marriage, saying, ‘We never really believed in the idea of a marriage contract.’ But when his partner became pregnant, his brother urged him to change his mind, asking, ‘What are you waiting for—marry her!’
‘I was like, you’re right, dude. I got on bended knee and she laughed and said yes.’
I think the reason their relationship works so well is that they were friends for ages before they started dating. Knowing each other for so long really laid a solid foundation, you know?
We never actually dated, or even had much of a conversation, but I’ve always remembered her and her sisters. She’s one of triplets, and honestly, I just really loved their whole family. They just had this amazing energy about them, and I always thought so.
