It Ends With Us cast drama sparks new light on Blake Lively and Leighton Meester’s old Gossip Girl tension
As a devoted fan who has lived and breathed Gossip Girl for far too many years to count, it’s always fascinating to delve into the behind-the-scenes dynamics of my beloved show. The revelation about Blake Lively and Leighton Meester’s friendship (or lack thereof) is certainly intriguing!
Delving deeper into Blake Lively’s history with her acting partners, Daily Mail examines a previous professional bond she shared with her Gossip Girl costar, Leighton Meester.
36-year-old Lively and 38-year-old Meester were the main stars throughout the six-year span (2007-2012) of the CW series, which consisted of a total of 121 episodes.
In the show, both Lively and Meester took on the characters of Serena van der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf respectively, alongside Penn Badgley, Ed Westwick, Chace Crawford, and Kelly Rutherford.
In August 2017, when reflecting on the show’s anniversary, Joshua Safran stated that Blake and Leighton were not on friendly terms with each other.
He compared the actresses to their respective characters, saying, ‘They were friendly, but they were not friends like Serena and Blair.’

The artists displayed distinct characters, as Safran explained to the press: ‘Blake is incredibly present. Blake is fully aware of everything that’s transpiring.’
I converse with Blake in a modern fashion, and she might say something like, “I’ve got plans tonight. Ever been to that restaurant?” (as a dedicated follower)
Master, on the other hand, maintained a “very distant and extremely silent” persona, and it was noted that after her performances ended, she often wandered around the stage, as mentioned by Safran.
