Is Big Brother Australia returning to Dreamworld? Production ‘confirms’ upcoming reboot is returning to Gold Coast – after the original house burned down in 2019

Big Brother will return to its original home on the Gold Coast later this year.

EndemolShine Australia has almost definitely decided to shoot the upcoming revival in the same location where the series was previously filmed while on Network 10 from 2001 to 2008, as they have advertised for local post-production workers.

The job posting indicates that Endemol Shine Australia is searching for a post production team based in Queensland who are available to physically work on location, as ‘Big Brother’ prepares to make its comeback.

Although the exact filming location isn’t mentioned, the hints point towards a potential new set being constructed in the northern regions, following the filming of the last three seasons in Sydney prior to the show’s cancellation by Seven Network in 2014.

The TV show is set to come back on the screen in early November, with an anticipated finish by mid-December.

The abandoned Gold Coast house was deliberately lit on fire in June 2019. 

Four children aged between 11 and 15 were later charged with arson after it was set ablaze.

Two nine-year-olds who were also arrested were released after assisting police with inquiries.

After the show was axed in 2014, the unoccupied set was left to rot for five years. 

In 2020, I couldn’t contain my excitement as a new house was constructed in Manly, a place I hold dear, as it was connected to the series I adore. However, the joy was short-lived when, in 2021, Channel Seven had to move the production to Sydney Olympic Park following an eviction notice from the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

The eviction notice was issued due to concerns for local wildlife. 

The reality show is set to return to its original channel, Ten, next year, as they promise to align the Australian version with its successful format.

In 2025, a group of newly selected housemates will be broadcast continuously on live stream as the show resumes with its new host, Melissa Tracina.

As a die-hard admirer, I can’t help but share my excitement about Tracina stepping up to host the series, following Sonia Kruger’s win at the Gold Logie! I simply can’t wait to see what fresh and captivating changes Tracina has in store for us fans.

As I speak to Daily Mail Australia, I’m thrilled to share that Aussie fans like myself will now be able to experience the game in real-time!

‘What’s so good about this is the livestream element,’ she said. 

To alleviate concerns about receiving an unsatisfactory edit or being portrayed as the “villain” of the season, viewers have the flexibility to tune in whenever they prefer, allowing them to keep track of the [housemates]’ activities at their convenience.

In the early 2000s, a popular reality TV series thrived on Channel Ten, where contestants vied to remain in the house and secure cash prizes by outlasting their fellow housemates.

Ever since its inception, I’ve been a devoted follower, and let me tell you, this show has had quite an interesting journey! Initially, it graced the screens of Channel Nine, but then came a fresh new look on Channel Seven.

The live streaming cameras across platforms for “Big Brother” have kept attracting a good number of viewers both in the United States and the United Kingdom, maintaining its popularity.

Over the course of the three weekly broadcasts of the American series (on CBS, streaming platforms, and the continuous live stream on Paramount+), viewers accumulated a total of 8.3 billion minutes worth of viewership.

In 2022, I found myself placing our much-loved reality show in the same league as the blockbuster streaming sensations such as fresh Bridgerton seasons, Stranger Things, and the Game of Thrones spin-off, House of the Dragon.

channel 7 decided not to include Big Brother Australia in their 2024 schedule, as the most recent season recorded its lowest ratings ever.

As a lifestyle expert, I find it unfortunate to share that my highly anticipated show, which debuted a week ago, was unfortunately moved from its initial 7:30 time slot to a later hour. And to add to the disappointment, our recent 15th season finale garnered only 152,000 overnight viewers in the five major cities – a significant decrease compared to when we re-emerged in 2020 with a whopping 853,000 viewers. It’s clear that our audience has dwindled significantly over time, which is certainly not what we had hoped for.

Spectators showed little enthusiasm for the recent team makeover that emphasized developing romantic relationships among its attractive, solo members during the previous season.

Back in the day, when Seven was all about everyday folks, I used to be hooked! But now it seems like a reboot that leans more towards Love Island than Big Brother, and frankly, I find myself longing for those old times. I can’t fathom why I should cast my vote for any of these new contestants!

‘So sad to see what was once a great show absolutely ruined,’ another lamented.

‘I found out I got the job pretty quickly before the news came out,’ Tracina told Daily Mail. 

‘I grew up watching it. When it came out in 2001, I was there.’ 

Before taking on this current role, she had already made a name for herself as a ‘cultural representative’ on Tens’ comedic talk show, The Cheap Seats.

To me, this is incredibly significant. Moreover, it seems the audience adores it; it’s an unstoppable television phenomenon, she further commented.

‘It means so much to so many Australians, so I feel the pressure of doing the best job that I can.’

One Reality TV show, commonly referred to as Big Brother, stands out for being unique among its peers because it unfolds live on air and offers viewers a raw, uncensored glimpse into the happenings within the house.

Through live broadcasts, viewers can experience the game as it happens organically, rather than through predefined narratives crafted and edited by the production team.
