Invincible creator reacts to brutal Invincible VS fighting game: “It was so magical. It was so exciting. I cried.”
According to Robert Kirkman himself, here’s his take on the Quarter Up’s Invincible video game adaptation, a combat game that doesn’t shy away from the brutal and gruesome aspects of the original storyline.
Enthusiasts of fighting games are buzzing with anticipation following the unveiling of Invincible VS, a creation by Quarter Up. This is a ferocious three-versus-three (3v3) tag-team game based in the Invincible universe, offering fans intense battles leading to annihilation, their beloved characters, and iconic settings. Here’s a sneak peek at what Robert Kirkman, co-creator of Invincible, has to say about Invincible VS!
Robert Kirkman on Invincible VS
In a recently published video by EvoFGC dated June 9th, Kirkman, who is one of the creators of the Invincible series, expressed his feelings about the upcoming fighting game. Despite having exciting experiences such as working on film sets and seeing the comic transform into a television show, playing characters from Invincible in a fighting game brought forth some strong emotions in him.
“It was so magical. It was so exciting. I cried,” Kirkman said in the video.
He went on, explaining that fierce battles are a crucial aspect of Invincible, whether in the comics or the television series. Yet, what sets Invincible: Video Game apart is its ability to fully immerse players within the heat of combat.
Kirkman stated, “For the first time, this game allows you to truly live and feel these experiences. In fact, certain battles within the game can become quite intense, even surpassing some of the action we’ve shown on the series – a thrilling prospect for me.
Maximilian Dood reviews Invincible VS gore and first impressions
Alongside content creator Maximilian Dood, combat designer Reepal “Rip” Parbhoo, and narrative director Mike Willette, Kirkman was also accompanied.
Maximilian Dood stated that certain elements amplify the action, violence, and battle intensity within a game. He noted how the initial experience of a fighting game can be particularly influential. In the case of Invincible VS, it was the graphic depiction of violence that caught his attention.
As a fan, I can’t help but wonder: When you interact, whether it’s pressing buttons or doing other actions, what kind of reaction do we get? Maximilian Dood put it this way: “And absolutely, witnessing a 3v3 tag fighter with an abundance of gore, that was the initial thought that struck me as, ‘Wow, this is unique. This is something entirely new.’
As Rip mentioned, many modern fighting games restrict developers from innovating since fans want familiarity with the series. But with this undertaking, there’s an opportunity for unrestrained creation, unbounded by traditional expectations.
