Okay, I’m SO excited about the new High School Musical stage show! They’ve just announced some amazing casting news – and honestly, it’s a dream come true for any fan of the original movies. Someone from the very first cast is coming back to East High to help celebrate the 20th anniversary! (No offense to Jason Donovan, but this is HUGE!)
Okay, so this is awesome news! Digital Spy just told me that KayCee Stroh – you know, Martha Cox from the original High School Musical movies and she even showed up as herself on the TV show – is going to be Ms. Darbus in the first UK production of the musical! It’s a special one too, celebrating 20 years since the first movie came out. I’m so excited to see her back in the role!
I’m so excited for High School Musical! The cast is looking amazing – we’ve got Stroh as Coach Bolton, Tobias Turley as Troy, Leonor Correia as Gabriella, Caitlin Tipping as Sharpay, and Luke Bayer as Ryan. It’s opening at The Lowry in Salford on August 22nd and running all the way until September 19th, and tickets are available now, so I’m definitely getting mine!

Stroh shared that returning to the world of High School Musical feels incredibly special. Having first played Martha Cox, she’s now thrilled and honored to take on the equally memorable role of Ms. Darbus, allowing her to contribute to the story in a fresh way.
I’ve always dreamed of performing in the UK, and it means so much to be able to do that with a story that’s so meaningful to me. I really took this role because of the fans – their constant support, love, and the memories we all share have made High School Musical so incredible!

The Lyric Theatre at Lowry will be completely transformed into a basketball court for the production of High School Musical. The stage will extend into the audience with on-stage seating, making viewers feel like they’re right at East High. Expect to hear all the classic songs, including favorites like ‘Breaking Free’ and ‘We’re All in This Together’.
Hope Mill Theatre and Chris Harper Productions, in partnership with The Lowry, are presenting the musical. David Simpatico wrote the script, and Bryan Louiselle adapted, arranged, and produced the music. Joseph Houston and William Whelton, the founders of Hope Mill Theatre, will co-direct the production.
The first performance of High School Musical was at Stagedoor Manor Summer Theatre Camp in 2006. It then premiered in London at the Hammersmith Apollo in January 2008.
High School Musical runs at the Lowry, Salford from 22 August to 19 September.
The latest issue of Living Legends, a beautifully illustrated 100-page tribute to Sir David Attenborough, is now available! You can purchase it at newsstands or online.
