Marvel fans have a lot to look forward to! The highly anticipated series Wonder Man is set to premiere in 2026, and the second season of Daredevil: Born Again will follow soon on Disney+. A new trailer has just been released, offering a first glimpse at the upcoming season. Highlights include the return of Jessica Jones, unsettling images of the villain Bullseye, a nostalgic flashback featuring Foggy Nelson, and the exciting introduction of Matthew Lillard to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Damian Lillard is familiar with keeping character details under wraps, having recently worked on the secretive sets of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 and the upcoming Scream 7. Unfortunately, the trailer didn’t reveal much about his new character, “Mr. Charles,” so fans will have to wait for more information. However, now that we’ve seen him in the show, along with the other Season 2 footage, it raises a lot of interesting questions.
Is Mr. Charles Even His Real Name?
Whenever a new, important character is introduced with just a first name and a title like ‘Mr.’, I immediately wonder if that name is a disguise hiding a bigger secret. That’s definitely what’s happening in Daredevil: Born Again. No one would simply call this man ‘Mr. Charles’ unless it’s part of a carefully constructed identity, like Daredevil or Kingpin.
People have been speculating about which character Damian Lillard will play, but he’s said it won’t be someone in a costume. Because his character’s name is ‘Charles,’ many fans think he might be Professor X, especially with the new X-Men movie coming out. However, that would be tricky since Patrick Stewart is already playing Professor X in Avengers: Doomsday, and it’s unlikely Marvel would have him appear in the Hell’s Kitchen universe. I think the name ‘Charles’ is just a mislead, and the character will be entirely original.
Whose Side Is Mr. Charles Actually On?
Although information is limited, Mr. Charles appears to be a political opponent of Wilson Fisk, and Matthew Lillard has said he’s new to the Hell’s Kitchen area. However, even if he is against Fisk, that doesn’t guarantee he’d agree with Matt Murdock. Like other vigilantes, Mr. Charles might be operating outside the law and without any support from official authorities, pursuing his own agenda.
The preview doesn’t show him in a uniform, and it suggests he’s not by himself. While this doesn’t confirm anything, it creates a different impression than if he were shown sitting in a fancy office looking menacing. I’m hoping that if Damian Lillard plays a villain, he’ll really embrace the role. If this project doesn’t allow for that kind of over-the-top performance, I hope the creators, Charles and Matt, have a solid and collaborative working relationship.
Is Matthew Lillard Behind That Disturbing Kingpin Mask?
A strange image in the latest trailer shows someone dressed as a comical version of Wilson Fisk, using one of his less-known comic book names. It’s unclear what we’re seeing – is it a person in a costume, a small puppet, or even an image created using artificial intelligence as part of the show’s story? And is a character named Mr. Charles involved?

Because the figure of Kingpin appears in the older 4:3 aspect ratio, many viewers believe it’s connected to the strange signal that causes Daredevil intense pain. This immediately reminded fans of the famous Max Headroom broadcast interruption from 1987, suggesting this isn’t just a visual effect. While it’s likely the imagery only exists within Daredevil’s mind – a result of him exclusively visualizing older television formats – it’s possible the signal will affect those watching the show as well.
It’s possible Matthew Lillard intentionally led fans to believe he wouldn’t wear a costume, just to surprise everyone by actually dressing up for Daredevil: Born Again – even if his costume isn’t what people expected. But even if he doesn’t wear a mask, I still think Charles Stanley is the one playing the character.
Let’s hope we find out more about Lillard’s character before the very last episode of Season 2. For now, we’ll need to be patient and wait for the first episode to air. The good news is we now have a date: Daredevil: Born Again will return on March 24, 2026.
