How To Unlock The Duchess Nightfarer In Elden Ring Nightreign

In the Elden Ring Nightreign closed test, the Duchess was already accessible; however, you’ll need to unlock her in the full version. It’s somewhat unexpected, but then again, the Dark Souls 3 beta had us battling the Dancer while the actual game featured Vordt. FromSoftware sure does enjoy a good twist!

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that you can acquire the Duchess character quite early in the game, reminiscent of Bloodborne’s gameplay style. The process is relatively straightforward with just a few minor hurdles, making it less complex compared to some of the Remembrance questlines.

First, You Have To Beat The Tricephalos Expedition

The initial phase is undeniably extended. To proceed, you must finish the Tricephalos Expedition. You’re free to choose any character from the Nightfarers, provided you make it through each of the successive nights.

Defeating Gladius will grant you access not just to the remaining six adventures, but also the essential item for acquiring the Duchess – a vintage pocketwatch. Rest assured, this unique item will be added directly to your inventory once unlocked.

There’s a chance you’ll get the old pocketwatch even if you die to the Expedition’s Nightlord.

Give The Old Pocketwatch To The Priestess

Spoilers for Elden Ring Nightreign follow.

Upon reaching the Roundtable Hold again, have a conversation with the Priestess and hand over the antique pocket watch to her. You may remember her as the one who guided you to the game’s central hub at its onset, and she can typically be found near the table known as the Lost Table of Grace.

In a sequence reminiscent of the initial Nightreign trailer, there’s a scene where it is unveiled that she had been the Duchess this whole time. She then decides to team up with you in your struggle against the Nightlords.

Should you revisit her diary, you’ll uncover some additional insights about her background and the circumstances that led her to renounce her thieving lifestyle and take up the role as the Priestess of the Hold, appointed by the Iron Menial.

You can now select her from the character menu at any time, like with any other Nightfarer.

The Duchess Is Required For Another Nightfarer

Even if you don’t feel inclined to play the Duchess character right away, here are some compelling reasons as to why she is still worth your time to unlock:

Regardless of whether playing the Duchess character appeals to you immediately, there are several reasons that make her a worthy choice to unlock:

  • You’ll get an Achievement/Trophy
  • She has her own Remembrance
  • She’s required to unlock the last Nightfarer

As a gaming enthusiast, I can share that the sole method to unveil the final playable character, the intriguing Revenant, lies in acquiring the Duchess. These two characters are truly distinctive and offer an exciting experience you don’t want to miss out on. Luckily, getting the Duchess isn’t a daunting task. All it takes is a quick chat with the Priestess. So, if you’ve got five extra minutes, it’s definitely worth the conversation!
