To play as the Duchess in Elden Ring Nightreign, you’ll first need to acquire the Revenant. This character is unique among the playable Nightfarers, with a steep learning curve due to the need to manage not only yourself but also her team. Her ability to create breathing space for her allies and save them at crucial moments makes her unparalleled. However, before you can strategize around these advantages, you’ll first need to gain access to her.
Unlike the Duchess who is relatively easy to access, the Revenant in Elden Ring Nightreign demands a bit more effort but not an overwhelming amount. To uncover the Revenant, you’ll need some in-game currency and a challenging boss fight, so it’s essential to get acquainted with another character beforehand.
Unlocking the Revenant in Elden Ring Nightreign
To assume the role of The Revenant, make a stop at the Small Jar Marketplace found within Roundtable Hold. This small jar vendor is the very same one where you purchase budget-friendly relics and emotes; however, you can quickly teleport to him through the map in the Roundtable Hold if you ever get disoriented.
At the Small Jar Marketplace, you’ll discover a Dirty Picture Frame for sale (I was able to purchase it once I unlocked the Duchess, suggesting that this step is necessary first). Once you’ve made the purchase, you’ll gain the ability to see a spectral apparition in the corner of an eastern room within the Roundtable Hold. She appears to be gazing at a painting, but upon interacting with her, you’ll be whisked away to a dream-like scenario reminiscent of a memory.
In this world, The Revenant is present, but she’s safeguarded by the three summons that make up her combat skills. Overcome these summoned beings first to engage with her without any distractions, and once you successfully defeat her, she’ll join your team.
Just like the Duchess, The Revenant isn’t a robust combatant on the frontlines and thrives more when supported by a well-coordinated team. Her strength lies in summoning spectral allies for battles, who can either inflict damage or divert enemy attention. Whilst these allies engage in combat, The Duchess shines by employing Faith or Arcane abilities from the rear lines.
After getting access to the Revenant, there’s no need for additional concern regarding character unlocks at this point. Further characters will be introduced through downloadable content (DLC) in the future. For now, both the Duchess and the Revenant will complete your current character lineup.
