How to Solve the Wall Puzzle in Where Winds Meet

Where Winds Meet offers a lot of side missions, which is one reason it stands out compared to games like Ghost of Yotei. You may have already discovered one called Echoes of Old Battles if you’ve been exploring early on.

This optional quest sends you into an ancient fort filled with challenges. You’ll need to solve puzzles and battle tough enemies to progress, including one tricky puzzle involving the fort’s walls.

Let’s break down the steps required to reach and solve the wall puzzle in Where Winds Meet.

Where Winds Meet Echoes of Old Battles Quest Walkthrough

In the eastern part of the Verdant Wilds in Where Winds Meet, there’s an old fort. You’ll find a person standing near the entrance who will offer you a quest called “Echoes of Old Battles.”

After accepting the mission, your goal is to open the main gate and explore the fort ruins. Once inside, you’ll need to defeat the guards and the area’s boss, Zhang Bao.

Opening the Pathway to the Tunnels

Now that you’ve defeated the enemies, you need to light certain torches to reveal the path to the tunnel under the ruins. Here are the torches you need to light:

  • The torch in the training grounds, where you fought the boss.
  • The torch above the large red gate opposite the main gate you entered from.
  • The torch on the southwest tower.
  • The torch on the northwest tower, by the main gate.

Once you’ve lit all the torches, a circular stone platform will rise from the training area. Go to the platform and hit it with a slam attack. This will open the stairs leading down into the tunnels.

Solving the Wall Puzzle

Go down the stairs and follow the path until you find a body. Examine the body to learn the Yanyun Oath Gesture, which you’ll need to solve a puzzle on the wall.

Keep going through the tunnel until you find a room with a big statue in the middle and symbols all over the walls. Go up to the statue and use the Yanyun Oath Gesture to activate a puzzle on the walls.

Once the puzzle starts, lights will illuminate different symbols on the walls. You can push these symbols in and pull them out. The goal is to get the right combination of symbols lit up on both sides to solve the puzzle.

Look at the pictures to see which Chinese characters you need to light up to solve the puzzle. Once you’ve lit up the correct characters, the puzzle will be completed, and you’ll see a scene showing the door opening.

Unlocking the Water Wheel Gate

At the end of the tunnel, you’ll reach a room with a water wheel that’s stopped. You need to get it turning again to open the last door.

To continue, walk behind the waterfall. You’ll see a device you can use – activate it to start the water wheel. This will unlock the door and let you move forward.

Walk through the door to find the treasure room. Open the big chest inside to get the treasure and finish the quest. The treasure is a powerful skill called Touch of Death, which will be very helpful early in the game.
